I have put a deposit down on some custom wheels for my 997 4S but I am now having a (wheel) wobble.

I have ordered some forged 50th anniversary replicas scaled to 19inch. These have been my favourite for ages and I think really suit a black car:

Thing is that I was trying to go for a modern retro look and as Porsche is using similar designs on the newer cars this isn't going to look very retro.

My other thought was to use Gunther Werks style wheels, I think the black rim and deeper dish could be really unique and make the tyre area larger and more retro, but this is the less safe option. I am pretty sure I could switch the order to these if I wanted to.

I like the OEM sport classics wheels but they are too much black for a black car in my opinion. I don't particularly like the look of the silver Fuchs on a 997, I think they clash a bit with the later cars.

Any thoughts on the two options above?

I'd go OEM Sport Classic Fuchs

I think that looks good on lighter colour cars but too much black on black for my taste.

I did think about getting some sport classic copies and getting them refinished in an anodised finished like the classic RSR - but in the end thought the copies would be low quality cast wheels. Refinishing OEM is out of budget.

Thanks, but already have a deposit with a custom wheel company so will be using them.

They have done steelie copies in alloy which was quite cool but I want to do something that is a nod to Fuchs but with an update to suit the 997.

PS: the options I am looking at are both custom due to getting them made in 997 fitment sizes.

If it was me, I'd be taking inspiration from some of the CSR cars myself:

I just think this looks stunning!

Silly question but why is refinishing OEM not in budget, assuming buying OEM is within budget?

I had my CLs resprayed a different colour by Lepsons for less than £400 and the finish is perfect. That's surely a small outlay compared with the price of these wheels?

As a plus you'll end up with something a bit different to whatever everyone else has!

Have you spoken to JZM about getting some fuchs as they do them in the RSR finish?

Not a silly question! To do a proper RSR anodised finish rather than painted I was looking at about £300 per wheel on top of the OEM wheel price. I guess I could have had them repainted for the sort of price you mention but was a bit of a risk how they would turn out. I liked the idea of a custom forge to my spec.

I looked at quite a few pictures of 997's with silver Fuchs and I think the "petal" area is too wide, looks great on older cars but for some reason I think the newer models look better with a narrower, straighter spoke.
