Mike Brewer's new auction venture thingy

thoughts on this?
Immediate thought is that it's Silverstone Auctions' new online effort and thus probably not 'Mike Brewer's' at all but that Silverstone have chucked him some cash and possibly a little equity to put his name about for PR purposes. Not totally convinced he's a great fit for that, but not my choice. Someone like Harry Metcalf (sp?) would have seemed a better bet. Brewer is a bit, er, commercial.
I assume Silverstone has seen too much trade mopped up by Collecting Cars, so this is their response.
Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and all that. I am sure Nick Whale has got enough contacts to put cars through to give the site some gravitas....he’s literally copied the CC model replacing Chris Harris with Mike Brewer. Harry Metcalfe more appeal to the PH massive but I suspect Mike Brewer is better known.
Let’s see if they leave all the lot histories on the site or erase all details of any lots that fail to sell like CC do.....

Mike Brewer's almost a household name connected to cars so a good fit in my opinion. You may not like him but plenty of people do and I don't think that's a bad idea to have him as a brand ambassador, he's a car man through and through and the public recognise his name and not necessarily for anything negative and he's a likeable chap.
There is a comprehensive team of so called experts behind this launch so I expect them to do well, to knock CC off the top spot will be the challenge but doable with a team who no doubt have many contacts to work on.

From a mass market point of view he does make sense. So if this was a car supermarket auction site then he'd be a great choice.
The cars listed on there at the moment say to me that your average Pistonheader is actually the market they are going for. So would you buy a used Ferrari 350 on Noble M600 sight unseen from this man?
as said above "oooold out yer 'aaaaaaaannnnndd"

They're going to have to brush up on the photography.

If you wanted to sell hatchbacks and faux SUVs to punters, for sure. Can't see how Brewer is going to be a draw / provide that intangible feelgood factor for sellers and buyers of the sort of tackle I thought Silverstone traded in. But maybe Brewer has a following at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este that I've overlooked.Perhaps Brewers blessing is all one needs to get top dollar for your Ferrari Birdcage Scaglietti Competizione or Jaguar Pagoda Evolution CSL, formerly of Count Drogo and Michael Caine. Feels implausible, but it's not my scene, so whadda I know!
