hello everyone, I hope you are all well... what would you do?

going in September to Porsche Experience centre at Silverstone for a 2 days performance course. Did the previous levels, a fantastic experience. real fun and learnt a lot

Here is the dilemma for the September course

1) Use my own 991.1 4S manual.
pros: you learn the limits of your car, it is the car you drive, you spend time on various parts including ice hill, kickplate and Silverstone proper circuit on the last day. Cheaper. say you save £2k on hire, may be less when you add insurance and wear and tear
cons: well it is your car. the same car you drive, ie not new experience. wear and tear etc

2) Hire one of Porsche cars: availability include normal Carrera, Turbo, GT3 991.1, GT3 991.2, GT3 RS
Pro: the reverse of pt1.

I used their car, which proved to be VERY cost effective: a new set of tyres had been fitted before we started the day, and a replacement set was fitted while we had lunch! Plus, their car was fully checked over every time we stopped for a break.

I'm looking at doing the 1 day Precision course and will be using my own GT4.

To hire one for the day is £500+ I think, so it's not really cost effective. I think a few years it was but PEC have put the prices up since then.

I wonder how much the 2 sets of tyres on a 911 Turbo cost? I'm sure it was significantly more than £500 - even for the PEC!

Sounds a bit odd to be honest, I can't see how you would use a set of tyres in half a day there!

if I may ask, did you get a special model or "standard" carrera ?

I used a Turbo ..... and it's easy to use 2 sets of road tyres when the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit is used, and you're being pushed to drive to the limit on the Precision Course with a race proven driving consultant! The tyres weren't trashed in the morning on the PEC tracks and facilities - but they wouldn't have lasted an afternoon on the race circuit; so they were changed.

prices are around
£1,650 for a turbo for 2 days
just over £2k for a GT3 991.1 for 2 days

I’ve done the Precision Day twice in my own car....never got close to using a set of tyres. The PEC tracks aren’t fast enough to shred tyres and I am not a good enough driver to drift my way round the main GP circuit.
