Sadly, I've been advised by the garage that my misfire has been diagnosed as bore score and the engine needs a rebuild / short-block for the bargain price of £20k. It's a 2010 car.

I know nothing about mechanicals. Should I just suck it up or do I have any alternatives?

i have no idea of your use or budget, but i'd be tempted to talk to hartech about a proper built engine, and see it as an opportunity to improve performance

I'd get a second opinion somewhere else. Its quite rare this on a gen 2 turbo. Only heard of it once before and that car was tuned running 700hp ish.

A 2nd opinion sounds like a wise suggestion to me, both in terms of finding an alternative diagnosis, but also scoping it and really scrutinising the significance of the scoring.

Car almost underivable though. They've done bore scope pics which I guess I could send out?

I’d be looking for a second opinion before shelling out £20k. Is the car at an opc or Indy are they known to you and do you have a good relationship with them? I know little about 7.2 turbo but really here of bore scoring on gen 2 engine.

If car not drivable getting it transport would be. Few hundred most likely

A big well known Indy. I’ve always been happy with them.

What other quality indys are there in south of England I could talk to?

Was it an OPC or an indie that diagnosed the bore score?

I remember stumbling across this article not so long ago.

https://jzmporsche.com/news/gen-2-bore-scoring-smo...

Worth a read. Fingers crossed it’s a misdiagnosis and something less serious. Good luck!

Really interesting read, something to be said for using quality fuel and avoiding short journeys. Perhaps also more frequent oil changes than the 2 year 20k.
Had the oil changed on our 1.0 eco boost fiesta runaround yesterday after 11 months and 9k and really noticed a difference in the smoothness/noise of the engine and it's only done 32k so me thinks if using your Pork around town change oil every 5k or every year which ever comes first

Hartech don't touch turbo engines.

I'd be looking for a low mileage used engine and just dropping it in. I blew my 996 engine and built it, so I know how much these engines cost to build. 20k for a new one is still cheap.
