Two PCM questions on a 2018 991.2
Discussion
Hi All
Two questions, if I may? Apologies for the long story.
1. The system is connected to the internet e.g. fuel prices, Google Earth etc, so I have data connectivity. I'm planning (covid rules notwithstanding) a road trip to Italy, but the system will not let me add additional countries.
The countries are listed, but all the tick boxes are greyed out....how do I add additional maps such as France, Italy etc?
2. Having bought the car remotely, there was come confusion on both sides about "Tracking" - as in having a Tracker, not taking it onto a circuit.
What the dealer was talking about was Car Connect, which is an app that enables you to remotely see fuels level, location etc. I was thinking it was an alarm type tracker for insurance, I said "no, I don't need that."
Having taken delivery of the car, I discovered the "Tracker" is the Car Connect app. Bearing in mind this type of thing is free on our Mini, the dealer said that I had to have the car coded to me and my local dealer did it for £99.
Now, I've discovered it's a subscription type service, that expires in 7 days and two years' service is over £420.
Anyway, apart from the faff, does anyone have this service? Is it worth £200 a year??
Thanks!
John

I have just gone through this. There are three things the VTS Tracker, the app and the the connect package.
I needed the tracker for insurance so went on the website and set up an account the OPC enabled the tracker then I paid the annual fee 235 on the website.
The connect app on the phone communicates with the vehicle but has reduced functionality since the 99 app subscription expired but its no big loss as the Tracker security function still works.
With regard to the connect services Im not opting in because I can get what I want from my phone and CarPlay link which works without subscription.
I think this is how it works
