The title might be a bit clickbait, or at least I don't think it as dramatic as the title suggests.

Last weekend I performed a quick oil 'n filter change on my 3.6 C2 997.1. You can read about it in my reader car thread.
Due to my own stupidity (and because I'm a cheap bd) I filled the car from four different bottles of Motul 5W40, one of wich was already open from last time .... Now I might have lost count of how much I really put into the car. rolleyes

According to the book, the car needs 8l + 0.25l (oil filter housing).
I can determine 7.5l (5l + 1l + 1.5l) but the last bit could be 1l - 1.5l eek

I believe the true number to be around 8.5l in total, which would be an overfill of only 0.25l ....
Anyhow, the reading shows this:

I have driven the car for around 10 miles and all seems fine ... No warning light has come (as has happened to other people on rennlist) and there is no smoke from the back.
On PFF (German Porsche forum) someone claims their OPC told him an overfill of upto 2l (!) is no problem. I find this hard to believe, tbf.

But now for my questions:

- how much overfill to you think ist tolerable ? (BTW, my car 'uses' next to no oil at all, about 0.1l / 1'000 miles)

- on a M96 engine, can I remove the oil filter housing to remove 0.25l, or will there be a constant flow of oil ?

Thanks for helping me out here!

How much oil came out when you changed it?

A bit more than 8l, since my 8l oil pan was overflowing slightly + what has been in the oil filter housing.

Car was warmed up nicely and the car was let 20+ min. to drain itself.

That’s what I thought smile worst “look at me I’ve done 200K miles in a Porsche” thread ever.

At that mileage I just wouldn’t worry about a touch of overfill. laugh

To resolve my own thread:

I removed the oil filter housing and could retrieve 0.2l of oil.
The BC now shows this, after having been standing for a couple of hours:

So yes, you can remove the oil filter housing, without a constant strain of 8l of engine oil wink
