Hi everyone,

I just bought 997.1, it has a 3.5 jack cable and a female USB input cable (the 2 are coming off 1 cable), which seem to be coming from under the head unit and pop out in the tray where you'd put it your phone etc.

I have connected both to my iPhone 7 and nothing happens on-screen or with the audio. The USB socket does not charge my phone so guessing no power or not activated somehow?

There is no source button, there is no AUX option on the unit to press or visible when I scroll through.

Has anyone any idea of how I can make my iPhone hook up to these cables and play Spotify or use my phone for calls?

Thank you

Plug a Bluetooth receiver into the 3.5mm jack outlet and it should come up as a Bluetooth aux source, at least that’s what worked for me (997.2 though)…

The 997.1 didn't have an option where an AUX cable was supplied, so if you've got the standard PCM unit for a 997 (with the 'phone' keypad and a CD slot) then it might be that the previous owner had a different head unit which they removed and forgot to remove / left the AUX cable you can now see, or there's an add-on unit behind the dash that's stopped working, or again, has been removed.

If you've got a non-standard head unit, then the answer is similar to above - either the cable is not connected, or maybe there's another way of making it work you've not found yet.

No help from the bumpf you got with the car, I take it?

As per post number 3, no such option was available in the 997.1 I believe. Consider yourself lucky if there's a lighter socket inside the central armrest!

Thanks for the replies everyone, the head unit is the Porsche standard one. I can see the cables have been retrofitted. I've since discovered the remnants of a Parrot kit, a kind of ball socket was left and a male Parrot connection which looks like the previous owner took the cradle perhaps?

I'll post a picture, that may look similar to what you've seen before.

Thanks

Yep - seeing that and reading the 'Parrot removal' comment.
There was / is a high-end Parrot bluetooth kit which allowed streaming from your phone to the car via an adaptor box. This all appears to have been removed apart from the USB / AUX cable. Either you'll have to get a kit like that yourself, or use an entirely different head unit / adaptor solution.

My advice for a cheap short term fix is to get a bluetooth FM adaptor from Amazon. They're only about £15 and work surprisingly well for the money. I pair mine with an air vent mag mount so it's right next to the steering wheel.

Thank you for the reply. That all makes sense now.

I have a £7 Bluetooth dongle in my old Merc, I tried that and it’s great.

Just need a decent hands free for calls now.

Any ideas or just use my ear pods?
