Serious Q: Is the upcoming GT3 RS too ugly for you to buy?
Discussion
There is a lot of discussion about the massive rear wing and extreme aero.. and I see many people opting for touring rather than winged cars these days.
There will be no touring RS.
As I see it, it is indeed ugly..there is no grace to the thing and it is a long way from the classic simplicity of the original 911.
I accept that.
I will still likely buy it, though probably pretty much track-only. It just seems too OTT to actually drive in on the street. I have earlier RS cars and they do not seem too excessive for road use.
Maybe we will all get used to it, the way people are now accepting the giant BMW nostrils, SUV Coupes and all sorts of other aesthetic travesties and it will just become more normal.
My curiosity is whether others are going to use it as a road car.

i don't think it is ugly, it is purposeful - and for a car like a new RS/their pinnacle road legal track car that should see plenty of track use, give me as much aero etc as Porsche think is necessary to make it the best/fastest possible. Having said that, I think most winged Porsches are not exactly "pretty" cars.
I doubt I will buy one though given I am bored of modern cars (and dare I say it more and more bored with cars and driving in general), so not the target audience

This… 100%.I also think that whether they admit it or not, Porsche saw what Mercedes-AMG did with the GT-Black Series, and thought ‘well if they can get away with that… game on’. Not a direct response because obviously they have their own product development plan, but just a peep over the fence.
every one who gets offered a slot will buy one it's that simple, there is £100k in it for them !!
The ring time will blow people away when it smashes the AMG back series car.
Be a bargain price vs AMG and faster, what's not to like ?
Swan song car for ICE.
To cap off the new RS , people spend £230k on a 991.2 RS and then £55k on a MR setup totaling £285k and the new RS will piss on it out the box in a big way cira 14 seconds faster on the ring in fact !!!
Active aero front and rear, the 4.2 engine and **** Bhp, not to mention the PH show off factor of having one unused sat in their climate control garage !
A free car to track if you so wish. EVERY one wants a free car to drive.

I’ve found the 992 GT3 bloody terrible, especially the rear. The side profile is nice, as always with the 911. I’ll also add it is better in the metal(plastic) than in pictures.
Modern RS on the road in the World today - ‘looks a bit Lamborghini’...
But one shouldn’t care of my thoughts or others - enjoy!

At the risk of getting flamed here but may I politely ask RDmcG how old you are?
Maybe there is a younger demographic wanting the bolder visuals that the new GT3 RS offers. Porsche marketing have probably looked into this and decided that's the direction they need make to continue future sales of Porsche GT products are at the top of the aspirational shopping list of a younger wealthier consumer of Porsche GT products, especially as future technology is introduced.

The 992 isn't a looker, full stop.
I like the standard cars, they have a good presence,I am really struggling with the gt3 looks though, the rear and that black plastic front bit (although my friend sent me a pic of a silver car that had the front plastic in the body colour and that looked even worse ).Unknown_User said:

I don’t think it is that. 992 GT3 basically has the same engine as the 991.2 GT3 so Porsche has had to get more aggressive with suspension and aero to show a demonstrable difference in performance i.e. Ring lap time. That’s meant the RS has had to go even further down that route….hence the absolutely farkin massive wing on the RS.Maybe there is a younger demographic wanting the bolder visuals that the new GT3 RS offers. To answer the OP’s question If you use it as intended which you do then buy it and enjoy it and don’t worry what it looks like. If you aren’t like the OP and buying it to drive to the pub I think it’s a bit of shocker.

Not in the least offended! Am 73 and this will be my fourth RS. Still have the 997.1 and 991.1 in the garage and they get tracked regularly. Obviously age is an issue in that this will be my last RS. Of course the 992 series will likely be the last RS anyway so might as well do it.

I intend to -many thanks
. I am very well aware that this stuff stops at some stage with advancing age. I expect that the 992 will be my last RS for Spa and the NS, but will add Monza as I have never run it. Have driven reasonably quick cars for decades and not that interested in the true exotics. Porsches are fairly reliable and tough which is good enough for me.
I do have a sense of the ICE era ending though so would not want to miss the closing chapters of the RS story which was glorious for me personally.
Many adventures with these cars, so ugly or not, I will get it. I have never flipped cars or any of that stuff, and do not care what happens to them in the future...I expect I will simply let them go when I can no longer use them properly. No regrets...I know that I have been very lucky to have been able to do this stuff for decades and especially at this age, and maybe the cars will end up with people who have the same idea...tough cars for proper use, fit for purpose, and to Hell with the resale value.
