Hi all,

I've read all about the differences between C2 and C2S of the same generation. I'm interested into getting into my first 911. A Gen 2 C2S is probably out of my budget. I've mainly been looking at Gen 1 C2S, but some of the more reliable .2 C2 creep into my budget.

I've heard a lot of people say get a .1 C2S over a C2, but with the power bump of the .2 over the .1, what's the gulf between the .1 C2S and the .2 C2? Especially if the .2 C2 is fitted with PASM?

Cheers

I had a .2 Carrera for four years. Mine had PASM and PSE.

Mate had a .2S at the same time, hardly anything in it on the road in the real world, so against a .1S I doubt you’d even notice it.

345bhp for the .2 Carrera vs 355 for the .1S IIRC….

If you’ve found a .2 Carrera with PASM and everything else is hunky dorey…..get it bought.

They’re brilliant sports cars, the 3.6 is a sweet engine.

As above. 10bhp difference is going to be hard to feel. The upsides around no IMS, bore score worries plus better touchscreen ICE with Bluetooth and will probably hold a resale value benefit, it’s a no brainer if you can afford the .2. Wouldn’t be too fussed about PASM as I remember preferring a passive riding 997.1 C2 that I had on loan to the .1 C2S on PASM that I had at the time so drive one to see how you feel about it before ruling out non PASM cars

PASM also gives you lowered suspension, makes a big difference to the stance of the car..

997.2 Carrera 2 with PASM are pretty rare and sell quickly.

Not much competition for these as an all round sports car.

Still old school enough with the modern twist, great combination.

If it’s the Silver one…..looks nice…!

You’ve got me going now….Quite fancy another one myself!

Edited to add gratuitous photos smile

What's the general consensus on the 3.6 vs the 3.8? Much difference in sound? Particularly with an aftermarket exhaust which is a route I may potentially go down (if I can't find one with the sports exhaust)

Owned 5 997s the .1 sounds better than .2 regardless of exhaust. .2 need the centre silencer removed and bypass fitted to make it sound half decent to be honest but still not as much character as .1 but does sound like a sports car should. I’ve had my .2 GTS nearly 7 years and that has sport exhaust as standard and I added sharkwerks bypass early on and it now sounds decent.

All above ignores mezger block obviously.

I love the sound of my 997.1 C4S with PSE - just anxious it will need replacing sometime soon!

The m97 engine in the .1 does sound much better and is generally a more characterful engine than the 9A1 in the .2. The trade off is reliability.

What's the difference in price between the two? is it close to the cost of a rebuild? If it comes down to potential cost then just base the decision on worst case scenario with both.

You won't miss thee better sound of a .1 if you've never had one and the 10bhp makes naff all difference in the real world. Especially when you get smoked by some oik in a lightly tuned Golf.

Can only comment on Gen 1 Car as that was my route into 997, Great car but after much research decided had to find one with rebuilt engine, preferably by HARTECH. Took me a month to find but great car and now bullet proof. Read about Hartech rebuilds and then go find a Gen 1 car.
