IMO, not the 997.1 C2S. These are, as I understand, amongst the worst water cooled car for engine score issues. Your stated aim is to not lose too much money, well this model puts you at risk of forking out for an expensive engine rebuild (£10K) should the worst happen. Also you want to move the car on in a year, and in my opinion the markert is wary of these for the above stated reason. I'd opt for either of the other two from a finanical perspective.

That said the 997.1 C2S is likely to be closes to the "true" 911 experienc.

However, I would suggest a 997.2 C2 manual.

All I can say is with the 911, the older you get, the more '911' it'll feel. How old is down to you and how much you want to spend.

The 996 and 997 is a great place to start the 911 experience and easy to use regularly.

None of them. Live a little and get the 930 Turbo. Not knowing your age, but it may have been a poster on your wall as a kid. In my opinion go with the classic turbo or don't bother at all if this is your one and only time with a 911.

If this is your last foray into ICE territory, I would definitely end with a bang and go for something air cooled. When you look back on this moment in 20 years time - do you really want to have signed off in a 997….?

The few I have driven it was the 996 that left the biggest impression.

1989 3.2 Carerra. Proper old school 911 but wasn’t easy to get to know.

2000 996 C2 Manual. Fun and accessible. For the first time I felt I knew what all the hype was about.

2002 996 Turbo. Hands down the most impressive car I have ever driven in terms of competence.
Felt less of an event than the C2.

2005 997 C2. Didn’t have the fun factor of the 996, felt too serious.

If I was buying a 911 to drive it would be a 996.

I would turn it on its head and ask why you are making the move from a 650i (great car, I had a 645i back in the day) DD to a BEV? I've got nothing against BEV vehicles and will have one myself in 4-5 years as a DD but the pace of change in that world is so fast, why not just wait? Unless you are playing the BEV game for low BIK?

Given you have other cars too why not just add a 911 to the fleet to keep rather than buying it to only own for a year?

I don’t have that problem.

I have a 30mpg V8 as a DD!

I get that and we will all go through that process over the next 10-15 years either through choice or legislation. Personally I don’t buy cars for only a year so can’t really help other than saying keep the Beemer.

I bought a 997.1 C4S for similar reasons a couple of years ago. I have an ipace as a work hack so it is very much a weekend car. Adore it and have no regrets.

It's 930 or 911 Turbo, not 930 Turbo. 930 means 911 Turbo. So 930 Turbo means you've got a 911 Turbo Turbo and trust me one turbo on those buggers is ample. [/beard]

I owned a 930 and it is somewhere towards the bottom of my list of favourite 911s, around 991.1 sort of level. I owned a turbo-bodied 911SC at the same time and it was far nicer to drive.

The best all round 911 I've had has been the 997.2. Small enough to be a "proper" 911 and modern enough to be user friendly.

Yup….I’d be going 997.2 as well..

I’ve had a few air cooled 911’s and pre 964/993, unless they’ve had suspension modifications done they’re not the most enjoyable to drive.

The 997.2 has enough of the old vibe you get in the air cooled cars but it’s modern enough and fantastic to drive..

I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

I love the 996 & have had mine for over 12yrs but for you, I’d also look at a 997.2

Whatever you end up with, I doubt you’ll be disappointed!

If this car checks out, in the current market, it looks a bargain

That's a fur coat, no knickers Porsche for a medallion man, that is biggrin.

A bit leggier on the miles, but narrow body and 2WD would be my choice of the current crop :

I followed a Basalt black example of a 997.2 S up the M40 yesterday. It looked wonderful, no fripperies, just a nice simple modern, non-bloated 911.

Now marked Sold. I wouldn’t buy a shed from that bunch though.
