My insurance is coming up for renewal and after phoning a couple, noticed they're tightening up on track day cover. Currently with Locktons who are great but will only cover PCGB track days. Footman James now limit track day cover to a max of £50k unless I use their multi car policy.
Can only think of Classic line to try next which I've never used but have always come a close second. My first track day this year is the RS day at Oulton and my new insurance will need to cover it with no quibble.
Any ideas ?

Classicline or A Plan.

Or (expensive) day by day insurance via www.insuremytrackday.com

At the end of January Manning were supposedly 'a couple of weeks' away from getting a new scheme up and running so possibly worth a call if you haven't already.

Manning have today quoted me £1,560 for a new GT4 having quoted £960 in November for renewing cover on my then GT3. They have since changed underwriter/insurer and for today's quote (no track days) were using ERS.

https://www.ers.com/news/2022/ers-live-motor-premi...

This £1,560 is about the same as Porsche (price leader) and £200 more than Locktons.

I moved to ClassicLine (with track days) last November and will use them again.

I will move the other cars onto a household policy later this year and maybe go self-insure on track days next year, I should have done that 84 track days ago....

I won't waste my time phoning Mannings. I'm actually very happy with Locktons but I have a couple of track days booked this year which are not PCGB ones. I was also slow in booking PCGB days as they were fully booked before I'd decided which ones suits my very busy calendar.
Footman James are brilliant to deal with but my other cars are tied in under my NFU Multi car policy. By just offering them only my RS for cover lowers the max track day limit to £50k and only up to three track days per year.
I'm not willing to take the risk of self-insuring my RS for track use as it has an agreed value of £225k. I'd be sweating buckets every time I'd come into close proximity to another car on track driven by someone of unknown ability.
Right now my thinking is to give Classic Line a phone tomorrow who are usually very competitive coupled with good cover.

As above Footman James only offer a very very watered down track day cover with a single car policy.

I insure all cars with Lockton and have done the RS day and other one off non PCGB events including Silverstone with them at no extra cost, I approached them beforehand gave them the details and they got approval from the underwriter. Matthew Haynes is very helpful.

Also just renewed for another year with no increase in the % rate premium. Some values up unfortunately so in cash terms worse off.

+1 Admittedly, not tried in 2022 yet, but in previous years, Locktons send about 10 questions about the TDO, format, passing rules etc, and I've never had one in the UK refused.

Thanks both for this info. Lockton refused cover for my RS at Donny last year and the reason given was too many cars allowed on track at any one time. The info I was given by Want to Race at the time was 80 cars which never made sense to me and still think I was given wrong info. I will ask them tomorrow if they'll cover me for the RS day being exclusively Porsche on track

They refused me cover on an OPC organised track day based on my (lack of) experience. It's done on a case-by-case basis.

Spoken to a few and right now ClassicLine are very clear favourites. No ambiguity whatsoever regarding track day cover unlike the others I contacted.
Unless a miracle happens I'll be going with ClassicLine.

Took insurance out with ClassicLine this morning. They were head and shoulders above the alternatives regarding track day cover. No ambiguity whatsoever on whether you are covered for a non Car Club track day.

ClassicLine is £1k excess on a £225k car. Track day excess is 10% of the car's value with unlimited days for Car Club organised events with six other track days FOC.. Any other non Car Club track days can be added for only an additional charge of £50/day. As I said they are unbeatable for track day cover and the same price as they quoted me last year.
Lockton did come back to me regarding the RS day which they will cover but with a 15% excess and an extra charge of £170.

Another benefit with ClassicLine is they don't use your NCB so you can use it on another car. More cars is always good smile

Can see now that P owners prefer only P cars on track and all prob insured. What happens if an uninsured guy ploughs into you, are you still covered but would have to pick up the 10% excess?

Track cover doesn’t work like road cover. You are covering yourself, everyone else is on their own.

What I mean by this, if someone ploughs into you, you still need to claim on your insurance. They aren’t liable for your damage.

I’ve never done a Porsche only day (yet) but some of the worst driving standards and mixed abilities I’ve seen have been on owner club days.

Exactly this. You need to be pretty reckless to do a track day without insurance unless you have a lower value car. As far as my personal risk assessment goes the insurance is to protect me against others running into me as no matter how stupid they are its own your own onus to ensure your car is covered.
I agree with more mixed abilities on PCGB days where some make some very unpredictable moves even though they're not going very fast. This is the main risk with track days IMO.
Very big thumbup for ClassicLine.
