Hi guys thinking of buying my first 911. Have put a deposit down on this - but wanted your opinions on it before going ahead. Not sure if it is priced too high ...

I was looking for a 997.2 PDK, a little younger though until a couple of months ago when I decided on a change of course.

I’d say you have the holy trinity of PSE, Sport Chrono and Sports Steering Wheel, but you have the ‘cover everything in sight’ beige / tan / brown interior which is great if your thing but balances out the other options Mileage is good for 2009 so I’d say the price is pretty good, especially for main dealer (assuming it is a main dealer).

Looks nice, got all the right options, priced ok in todays market…

Tan dash can reflect quite badly on the windscreen in bright sunlight, but that’s all.

Get an inspection done on the underside, lots or parts can corrode badly and need replacement iff not already done. Can throw up a £1.5k bill at an Indy quite easily.

Haha thanks, I can see the tan interior divides opinion which is why there are mostly black ones around. It is a Sytner dealership so not Porsche but perhaps better than your average one. What did you change course for?

The other car I was looking at in this price is a Targa 4 PDK (not S) but these also seem to divide opinion. Hard to get an well looked after honest 997.2 below £45k from what I can tell.

Thanks, do you have a tan interior version? It has the ventilated seats, not sure if those are any good, also seem to divide opinion.

Good tip about looking at the underside.

Had a Boxster S back in 2010 with sand leather interior incl. dash. For 95% of the time it’s fine, but can be quite distracting if the sun’s front on and high in the sky, causing reflections.

If everything else checks out, don’t let it put you off though.

They’re great sports cars.

Changed concept of the cars I wanted, originally was looking for 997.2 PDK and a new small electric car as a daily, but the ones I drove were hopeless, so went for a hybrid (Cupra Formentor) which is a lot more fun, and as also didn’t want to tie up too much cash in the 997 bought a MG ZT 260 (the one re-engineered to rear wheel drive and with a Ford Mustang V8) as more of a weekend car / future classic.

Looks lovely. Love the colour combination and price seems OK considering the crazy world we are in.

Have you had a chance to look underneath as there are a lot of detail parts that can be seized or corroded at this age. When I got my last Porsche they put it up on the ramp for me to poke about and I find a couple of minor issues which they fixed for free but would have cost me £.

Thanks, good advice and appreciate that. Yes sounds like it’s worth putting on a ramp and having a look.

That’s a really interesting combo of cars! I imagine a throaty V8 will holds it value in this era of quiet electric cars. As long as you keep it running!

OP, the dealer uses their “Select” programme to sell cars that they can’t sell through their main dealers for reasons such as too old/too many miles & also too much cost to bring up to accepted standards for the official main dealer /manufacturer wty standards so I’d recommend an inspection as MrVert says & check the claims limit on their warranty policy (just in case).

Thanks good tip! It seems like as you say they only sell newer or lower mileage cars through Porsche. This car was sold by Porsche West London about 6-7 years ago to a previous owner.

by chance happened to look at this forum.

Ive also been in the hunt for a 997.2, and I actually saw this one come up. I have a deposit/offer down on another one priced a bit higher but below 50k.

The going price really does seem to be around 45-50k for a good quality gen 2.

Im eagerly awaiting my guy to independently inspect in early April, then hopefully will get the motor delivered.

Whilst I also feel like I got a good deal given what is out there right now, I can't help but think we are paying the top end prices haha, but people say it keeps going up? I was having a look back 2-3 years ago and it seems it was maybe <£40k? then

happy to have a chat, as we both look to be new black gen 2 owners ha

Sure that sounds good, any idea how we have a direct chat without sharing our phone or email with the whole forum?

Value wise from what I can tell the 997 market is softening slightly, in that cars have been sitting at the higher asking prices and are gradually being reduced £1K at a time.

My maths says it should on average cost about £2.5-3K per annum to run a 13 year old 911 over the course of a couple of years. A manual may hold long term value better than the PDK. But my guess is that a 997.2 S PDK that one buys now at 45K with 50K miles easily could be around 38-40K in 3 years time with let’s say 60-70K miles on it - feel free to correct me if you disagree! So total cost around 5-6K per annum with the additional service costs.

Looks good to me assuming it passes an inspection, make sure the sports exhaust actuator is working as they seize. Vented seats are pretty useless but better than nothing in the summer I suppose.

I’d say that’s about right.
