992 GT3 Touring Tyre Options

I am finalising a GT3 Touring spec this week and and trying to find out if I have a choice of tyres from the factory.

I am looking for road use only and the most compliant tyre for comfort. Any ideas?

Alas you don't get any choice. Most seem to be coming through with Cup 2 tyres which are quite uncompromising - so you may need to consider switching to P Zeros or similar after you take delivery.

You don’t have a choice. For all weather usability then I’d recommend the Pilot Sport 4S.

I’m not sure how much difference there will be from a ‘comfort’ perspective between the different tyre options, however it would seen strange to prioritise this over other attributes on a GT3.

A lot has been written about how bad the Cup2s are supposed to be on the 2.1 Touring. So far I cannot confirm any issues on my car.

If I had a choice I would go with Pilot Sport 4S as i've had them on other cars and they were fantastic. I've not had great experience with P-Zeros although i havent used them for many years so that may not now be a valid opinion.

Why does it seem strange to prioritise tyres? I want the car to be usable and I have been told that below 10 degress C the Cup 2's are pretty useless and as i'm in the UK to me that is a problem.

Mine came fitted with P-Zeros, absolutely no issues to date although we have had no cold weather yet. I'm sure that they will be far better the Cup 2's in the cold wet stuff so I'm happy with that.

It makes perfect sense to prioritise tyres for usability. After the initial set of Cup 2’s that my car arrived with, I moved on to Pilot Sport 4S for exactly the same reasons you have highlighted. You didn’t mention usability originally and I felt it was strange to prioritise ‘comfort’ on a GT3, that is all.

Did you notice a big difference moving over to the PS 4S from the Cup 2 ?

How long ago did you take delivery? Am hoping mine shows up without Cups next month, but get the impression that most have them.

I picked mine up at the start of May, a friend who got his about 2 months later had Cup 2's fitted

Put Pilot Sport 4S on my last one for road use and will do so again

My Touring came on Goodyears and despite my initial unhappiness, they are pretty decent. Ride quality is better than expected. Unsure on level of grip/performance as yet

No, I am still hopeful of obtaining a 992 GT3, Touring or otherwise, but I am referring to my 991.1 GT3.

The PS 4S made the car much more relaxing to drive in wet and cold weather, and for me made it much more usable. For on road use, I'm not sure that the PS 4S loses much over the Cup 2, as I can't imagine approaching the limits of the tyres very often!

Are the Goodyears meant to be an equivalent to the Cup 2?

From what i have read and what Porsche 'offers' it seems that the P Zero is the best all rounder.

I'm picking my 991 GT3 up from Porsche Reading today after a major service, including swapping my worn out Cup 2s to PS4Ss. I found the Cups were brilliant in the dry, or in the summer, but resulted in too many days in the winter when it was wet and cold when I wouldn't use the car. I'll be interested if they've dulled the scalpel-sharp feeling of the car on Cups, but knowing my driving style, I can't imagine they'll be the limiting factor to the car's abilities!

Mine came with P-zero corsas and whilst I've never been a big P-zero fan on previous 911's, these seem to be pretty good on the road.

As far as I know the Michelin PS4 isn't available in N spec for the 992 GT3 yet.

As I alluded to above, on the road I'm not sure that you lose much in 'sharpness' moving from Cup 2s to PS4s. I think you'd have to be over-stepping sensible limits on a public road to notice anything significant.

Yes i think i also heard no N rating thus far.

My touring is in build as we speak so fingers crossed for Pirelli! I cant actually believe im saying that..
