I have a base 992 on order and was looking at my specs before the final lock down in 7 days. It looks like that option of Bose speakers has been removed from the UK configurator for the base 992 model, however it is still available in all other variants. My dealer tells me that I will still get Bose as my order is an old order even though it is still not a locked spec. What do you guys think about this development? So if one is ordering a base 992 - only options are the standard speaker or Burmester at an additional cost of £3200.00. Seems a bit unfair as it only effects the base
992. Thanks

Considering Bose is £1000 for 12 speakers, and considering the markup, it must equate to speakers of £50 quality. I am sure it is loud and provides a good surround sound feeling but I can't imagine the quality is anything special. If one really cared about music quality wouldn't they be paying the premium for Burmester anyway?

It wouldn't bother me personally, I don't think a 911 is a car you can really enjoy great sounds anyway, with all the tyre roar etc.

If one really wanted, they could take their car to a specialist Car Audio Centre and for £1000 get a much better sound system installed with custom fit speakers and amplifier. Talking brands like Alpine, Pioneer or Kenwood.

Although my BOSE system in mine is good, if I'm honest I think the tyre roar kind of spoils it and therefore music sounded better in my M4 Comp that had the Harmon Kardon system.

I certainly wouldn’t miss Bose in any of mine, nice to have it but not a deal breaker. There are much better options available though I’m not sure I’d fit them to a new car warranty wise.

Anything else but the basic sound system is a complete waste of money, unless you think listening to an orchestra in a thunderstorm makes sense.

I am quite happy with the pov. spec option. The car is noisy, but the engine sounds great and the pov. spec speakers can be heard OK. Maybe changing the speakers would be a sensible option, however I haven't got round to it.

The most important thing is that I get all my Youtube Premium playlists automatically, just like in my old Tesla-through my Android phone which has no data limit on the sim card.

The car turns the streaming on and off automatically on the phone. I was worried about that, as the Porsche operating system was all about Apple, however it works perfectly.

Been listening to whatever I want, when I want for free all over Europe this summer. Youtube Premium is the dogs knackers as far as I am concerned for many reasons.

The issue I believe is that if you want to px it it can’t then be Porsche approved unless totally stock

If one changed the speakers behind the grills would Porsche ever know?

Agreed. I've had Bose and Burmester in Porsches and they were awful. The cars with standard kit weren't great, but more natural and better as a result.

My 35 year old 911 has 4 speakers of which some work some of the time. Oddly it never bothered me hehe

Always had the standard system in my cars, if you want to hear perfect music get a decent sound system at home, cars are for driving.

Bose etc waste of cash

Some flawed logic in there, don’t forget you are deleting the std system, which you have already paid for, and replacing it with Bose so the total cost of the Bose is greater than the upgrade cost. Same with many options really.

With the road noise in the 992, the middle of the road quality of Porsche Bose systems, I’d say it’s not a big deal for a 992. But it is a very popular option.

good point well made. Ok, so its £50 of an upgrade (rather than its unit cost) per speaker over base. That still doesn't seem like much of a step change.

Specced it on my 991.2 and wished I hadn’t bothered…the tyre and engine noise makes it pointless, so it’s no great loss. The only thing I would spend extra on now would be for the matrix headlights which are stunning.

Almost every car I've seen in the last decade has a sound system that's fully integrated with the rest of the on-board systems and displays.
You usually need to go back to a main dealer and ask whether any of the manufacturer's own listed options can be retro-fitted.

Or is the point you are making that all the head units are similar so it's sufficient to upgrade further down the line? I'd be surprised if that's the case because the whole world of frequency equalisers, surround sound etc must surely be in the head unit.

The standard audio runs out of sufficient volume in all Porsches that don’t have BOSE or better. Particularly noticeable on the motorway with music. The system includes a sub which is notable in its absence with the base systems. That sub is also custom located in the car.
It’s patently untrue to suggest you can get a superior system to BOSE fitted to a Porsche for under £1k. Laughable in fact. Good luck getting someone to supply and fit an underseat sub (if they could) component speakers, tweeters and one or two amps at that budget. Then make it all dance with the OEM head unit and steering wheel controls.
Much nonsense spoken as truth here.

Never specced Bose in our Macan, standard system is better than what the Bose was in the GT3.

Correct, after having Porsches with & without Bose it ain’t a step change and questionable value IMHO. Apparently the std system is also made by Bose just not branded. It’s all in the marketing……

I agree with the comments regarding not worth the upgrade for either the BOSE or the Burmester 100%

However, when it comes to resale so many people stipulate that it must have at least BOSE in face the majority of people so you're almost forced to upgrade the sound system for when it comes to resale which is really very annoying in my opinion
