991 4S water leak into car
Discussion
hi all,
have a water leak into my 4S, under the carpet on the drivers side is soaking.
no idea where its coming from but have spent a few hours on google, appears the most likely is the aircon drain.
The Bose amp is not working. Have lifted carpets and currently drying it out.
Wondering if anyone else has had the same issue and what the cause was.
its s 2014 991, has not been used much recently but was sitting out last week in the heavy rain.
it has the glass roof, which seemingly has no drains, headline is dry and nothing on passenger side of car. , also apparantly the 991 has no drain hoses in the forward trunk, which does seem strange,
once I get it dried out I will get the hose onto it and see if I can see anything coming in certainly.
regards
Scott

On the 997 there are 4x drains in the bulkhead where the battery sits. These can block relatively easily. I realise its a different range, but Porsche design tends to be quite consistent through the years.
This thread on Rennlist is useful as it relates to 991: https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1166777-991-cab-wa...
I'd start investigating there.

Hi Mate,
I had a similar issue on my 991.2 GT3 ~ it was parked on the slight decline and we had a big downpour ~ the Porsche report is below, hope this helps ~ my symptoms were the front lift failed
Investigate front end lift not working and warning lamps on dash.
Carried out val. Confirmed front end lift does not work.
Val shows control module coms fault.
Checked fuses 40amp and 5 amp in rear end, All ok
Removed front seat to gain access to control module.
On removal of front seat carpet is damp, Removed front seat and carpet is soaked through and floor pan is full of water causing shorts in the control module.
Carried out water test
Removed carpets and rear bench seat to find rear bench also wet and water pockets on left side of the vehicle.
Removed rear carpet and rear quarter panel. Water traces coming from rear left quarter panel.
Removed rear lid, lights and trims. Found several missing trim clips which could allow water ingress and also seems open. Carried out water test with all trim holes sealed and water coming through rear lid seams. See pictures attached.
Resealed body panels. Carried out water test, Confirmed no more water ingress.
Replaced lift module and refit carpets and all trims.
Erased fault codes
Confirmed customer complaint has been rectified

Thanks appreciate your post. Yes I can’t see any evidence of it coming in anywhere. Will take out rear seat and get a hose on it once it’s fully dry.
I check air con pipe last night. Clear. No blockage. But no clips or cables ties on the pipe at either end. Just slides in. No sign any clips have ever been fitted ever.

at last car dried today,,
took it outside, witha hose sprayed the windscreen, nothing, roof nothing, arches nothing, you get the picture, eventually with a pressure hose I pressure washed the front area under the windscreen, and there it was a little drip about 50mm towards passenger side from the steering rack, left a hose running on windscreen and it was dripping in just left of the brake pedal, still not sure exactly where its coming in, but will investigate further.

Hi Ricardo. I appreciate your reply. Google would lead you to believe that the 991 has no drain holes at battery etc. actually none other than a small pipe from the file filler cap. speaking with Indy today says the seal around the pedal box can present a problem. I’m going to take. After your have a better look.

No worries Scott!
I did have a quick look and understood that on the 991 the bulkhead drains are under the battery. Strangely I could have sworn that the Rennlist link I shared had the info there, although upon review doesn't seem to
Good luck either way, water leaks are a massive pain to trace!

No kidding. The blown amp isn’t cheap. £1k new £600 used but aiming for a repair The access to the bulkhead is horrendous in terms of fixing anything that might leak. The brake master cylinder and all the cables take up a huge amount of space and restrict access. I’ll get a look at it later this week.
