Porsche PCCM+ upgrade for 997.1 .Any time soon?
Discussion
Having just been in a 996 with the factory supplied PCCM+ system i now wonder when the same will be available for our 997.I realise all the semi-conductors are being used up in Taycan's but they still supply the system for the 996. I believe these are a Chinese made system using Chinese tech so does anybody know when we can finally get out of all the retro fun on the existing system?.
For me personally i'm not bothered about the money saving and functions i don't use, we only have it switched to Radio 4, id just like good sat nav graphic's and an OEM dash as the car is factory stock spec.
But yeah i get the point i could probably get a better after market system and a OEM looking dash insert and nobody except me would ever know it was'nt factory fit anyway.

Don't understand why anyone would go this route when you can get better aftermarket units for less ££££ and still interface with all OE systems.
Each to their own I guess.
If you don‘t care about aesthetics, yes, you are absolutely right. Each to their own I guess.
But I have nit seen any aftermarket system that gets it right.
Zenec gets close, but those are expensive as well and are not the newest hard-, nor software.
Sure, many people don‘t care about this and are happy to save £1k, but there are other folks out there who want it done properly!
Anyhow, I have stumbled across a manual for one of those, even with a picture of it. Can‘t be long until we can order them.

though it seems the manual and pics that have circulated have been a hoax.

Hi
Is that 9x7.1 only or has 987.2 been released?
I wouldn't have thought there would be much difference but who knows!
Their official Press release said Gen 1 only. Gen 2 will be a few years later I'd imagine....though some bright spark will find a way to make it fit a Gen 2 i suspect. Is that 9x7.1 only or has 987.2 been released?

Are you being ironic? The retro Porsche units look completely gash IMHO. There are plenty of options out there that will outlast, outperform, and integrate perfectly well aesthetically. One mans meat and all that. But I have nit seen any aftermarket system that gets it right.

IMHO, just a rectangular, black screen doesn't integrate at all in a 996 or a 997 cockpit. Also from an ergonomic standpoint, some buttons for basic features are preferred. The 996 PCCM looks really good, again imho.
But please feel free to post some good alternatives, I'd be happy to spend considerably less on something that looks and works good!
I want to keep also the trip info and sport chrono readouts currently on my 997 standard system which i can work through my steering wheel controls.
Would the aftermarket systems currently available retain all the functions of my stock interface ?.
That would be a deal breaker for me if an upgrade couldn't interact with ,my sport chrono.

No, not at all. As you say, different horses for courses, but I'd be really curious what systems you have in mind.

996 dash is basically double din as standard (move the a/c controls down using OE facia).IMHO, just a rectangular, black screen doesn't integrate at all in a 996 or a 997 cockpit. 997 dash will accommodate a double din (incartec.co.uk offer all panels and interfaces needed if you have steering wheel controls etc).
Kenwood DNX if you want all singing all dancing with Nav and iPhone/iPod/bluetooth/speed camera integration.
Alpine if you want best sound quality and plan to update the rest of the audio in due course.
I was in that industry for circa 20 years. Plenty of pics on google.

Now it is my turn to ask you whether you are serious. None of these soloutuions do look good. I do not question the quality of the products you have mentioned, but the look of them.Alpine if you want best sound quality and plan to update the rest of the audio in due course.

Do you honestly think any of these are well integrated?

I do realize I'm very conscious about aesthetics. The radio is a crucial part of the interiors face. I couldn't bear the look of any of the above each time I get in the car. And that is before we talk about the interface of the thing itself and how they usally do not integrate into the Porsche system, crucially the BC in the center screen (rev counter).
There certainly are people who do not care about this and are happy with saving a few quids. They usually call the pccm overpriced and moan about how one could spend so much money on a supposedly inferior product. As we have both established: horses for courses.
An alternative to some may be the Zenec:

Not perfect, rather expensive, old tech as well but the best effort other than Porsche.
On the other hand, the 996 PCCM looks perfectly at home:

The Zenec looks like a fake Chinese copy of the original PCM unit if you ask me, absolutely awful.
I'll be fitting a Pioneer SPH-DA360 to mine when it arrives, its a sleek unit, and with the black fascia plate around it a proper clean install. The Porsche unit when it arrives will be 4 times the price and sub optimal performance, literally no wins.

in real life you will not like it. I am as nit picky as you and the texture of plastic and colour on the 996 PCCM+ is ever so slightly not right. It clashes too much. It is really noticeable. From your replies I can tell it would irritate you.Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
