I got my base 992 today. OPC told me that you dont need a run in the car. Just don’t track it. But what is the real advice. I am sure all cars need to be treated gently for first few hundred miles but what’s the official word. I checked the owners manual briefly and there is no mention of running in or not going over certain revs etc. So what’s the correct advice? Thanks
I've had many new cars over the years and always follow the same routine.
Don't go over 4,000 RPM for the first 1,000 miles. Vary the RPM and gear changing within that 1,000 mile period (i.e. don't sit at 60mph in a single gear for miles). Don't strain the engine by, for example, going uphill in 5th gear at 20mph.
Once you hit 1,000 miles, don't immediately go mad, but treat it with a little mechanical sympathy.
There are a lot of people who say 'drive it like ya stole it' - I don't subscribe to that. Don't baby it, but equally have some care with a brand new engine.

So the OPC told you the same as the Porsche docs, why are you looking for another opinion? You certainly won't find an informed one. All you can do is decide (like the poster above) if you want to follow what Porsche say or make up your own regime. Why would Porsche say there wasn't a running in regime if there actually needed to be one?There is a running in period, this is taken from my 992 GTS User Manual on Page 15:
