Best road tyres for 2023 0n 997.1 C2S?

What's the consensus for best road tyres as of summer 2023.?.

I have Bridgestones on my 2005 Carrera S, they have lasted well and been reasonably quiet. I was going to fit Michelin CUP 2's but I hear they arent suitable for cold wet days in winter. What tyre is best all round year tyre at moment?,

Is the Pirelli offering any good, I have fitted Khumo's and Pirelli's to my old air cooled cars before and these were very good at 964 performance levels ,are they any good in 350+ horsepower land?.

So many choices and i can't decide.

For daily driving Michelin PS4S has, generally, always been the answer (note that PS4 and PS4S are not the same here), however Continental Sport Contact 7 recently joined the party, and on paper are superb, very similar to ps4 with slightly better wet grip supposedly. Read pretty much every review out there before committing. Both have excellent dry grip for fast road.

Never tried the Goodyears. Hated Potenzas on my old ST and didn’t rate the old set on my 997 either, albeit they were 5+ years old so not a fair test. Useless on anything other than a perfectly dry warm day.

Just fitted SC7s to mine today. I’ll report back in a few weeks when they’re scrubbed in, but first drive impressions are far less road noise than the old Pirelli P Zero Corsas. The challenge is finding a set, but ATS had some - this made me nervous but fair play they took best part of an hour to ensure they were fitted without a mark on the wheels.

Obviously if yours is a fair weather only toy you’d be better off with something like Cup 2s, but I use mine year-round apart from when it’s really icy.

Thanks for that. I use mine all year around so I just wanted a bit of real world feedback as motorcycle tyres improve change yearly and yesterdays hero is todays 4th choice.
Michelin cup 4s seems to be a reasonable roll. I nearly bought the Michelin cup 2's as I didnt realise the limitations of those. French motorways have a lot of patches of standing water so wet grip is important to me.

I have a set of Continental contract 7's they are 305/235 against 295/235 and were fitted at the same time as new wheels and the old Michelines were very old (2014 manufacture date for rears) so not a fair comparison.

I do however notice how good they are in the wet, they feel grippy and give you confidence to turn in and load the car up more than I would normally want to. In the dry they have a lot of mid corner grip and feel very planted, I suspect they are at least as good as other road tyre alternatives. Better than 10 year old worn MPSS, YES ! But that's no surprise

I had PZero’s and now have Cup 2’s. The Pirelli’s were 220 treadwear, the Cup 2’s 180. PS4s are a treadwear 300, so technically the PZero’s are a softer compound of tyre and should give better grip and wear quicker. I wouldn’t rule out ContiSport 7’s either.

If you’re not tracking the car, choose the set that offer the best value as you’ll be performance limited by our heavily policed roads. Cup 2’s for example can barely get heat into them on the road and they’re a treadwear 180.

PS S5 isn’t available just yet but you can get them for a couple of other marques so hopefully not long, I’m running 4S just now they’re a brilliant road tyre on my GT4, I ran Cup2s on my old 911 and they were fine on that car with the extra weight over the rear wheels …… all round now though if not tracking or don’t mind doing short stints I think the 4S is best until S5 is out.

Don’t get the regular 4 or 5 they are not a high performance tyre.

can i run harder wearing Michelins on front and softer michelins on rear?. ie- mix cup 2 and another compound on front axle.?.. Steering v rear grip?.

well you could but I wouldn't reccomend it, you want consistent grip levels front to back or when one end start to lose grip your heading for a hedge

I wouldnt mismatch tires on a stter let alone something like a 911

I think saying the PS4 is not a high performance tyre is a little harsh.

Maybe... although is this the distinction between the PS4 as a "Max Performance" tyre vs the PS4S as "Ultra High Performance" tyre?

PS$ is imho second best daily, they are pretty good. But they aren't PS4S :-)
