I’m going to take the wheel off to see if it can be straightened at a local shop. Is it safe enough to leave one corner on a jack stand or should I really have both front and rear on stands for stability?

I would be more than happy with three wheels and one jack stand (set as low as it will go).

Thanks, that was my intention too. Only lift as high as I need to in order to get the wheel off.

I see lots of jack pads to protect the jacking point from metal on metal damage, but not many if at all for jack stands?

Depending on the design of your jack stand you can buy shaped rubber pads on eBay or from the manufacturers. You can also buy stands with rubber tops.

The flat type with rubber tops do appeal but they seem to be US manufacturers. Regular ones and newspaper it is then! biggrin

Does the wheel place have any spare wheels you can borrow while it is in for repair?

Or use a set of Fandango’s finest :

My mate Carlos swears by them, and says they last forever (and they’ve really helped him hone his high speed car control skilz)

What are they called? Something like that would be really handy, especially if you can get them in multiple bolt patterns.

They’re universal, 4, 5 and I think 6 stud patterns, and the holes are elongated to allow different PCD bolt patterns.

They’re what my wheel refurb guys use to enable them to move cars around whilst they're refurbing the wheels off them.
