992 GT3 Knocking Suspension
Discussion
Folks, not sure if this is the best place to ask this but will give it a go here and on Rennlist.
Any thoughts on this knocking on my GT3?
Recently started doing it whilst on a trip around Scotland. Doesn't require any big speeds as does this mainly when there’s a sharpish bump or compression (i.e. the lumps on the road in the video). Definitely front end (and out front, not in the cabin), seems to come from both sides and doesn't do it for the first half hour or so of driving (but then does it constantly until cooled down).
Sent this video to my dealer as it ll be pretty hard to replicate locally given the above, and they say they can hear a faint sound personally. I can’t see how this could be described as faint when it seems so clear.
I feel some pain incoming to get this treated seriously, even though the car is less than two years old and c.4k miles, so well inside manufacturers warranty. Where would you be looking - ARB drop links or bushings (given it seems to affect both sides), dampers (it has nose lift) or anything else obvious?
Thanks in advance.

I am not familiar with the set up on the latest GT3s but the fact that it only happens when the car is warm suggests a ball joint. As they warm up the different metal expansion allows play to become more evident.
On earlier cars it is classically the coffin / diagonal arms. And the sounds often described as the sort of clacking you get with snookers balls in a box - in the front it is worse downhill and at slowish speeds on uneven broken surfaces.
Problem is, when cold, the parts seems fine when examined. It's only when you remove them that you see the play.
The earliest one to fail I have had on a car was a 996.2 GT3 at 10K. I had 2 sets on a 997. We live in rural Glos with rough roads.

Thanks chaps, I was certain it would be some kind of suspension / ARB bushing or joint but, having posted this on Rennlist, the general consensus (after two responses ha) is the fuel tank rattle. I hadn’t considered this, but it does sound similar to videos many other posters there have shared on that issue (and seems a pretty commonly discussed problem in the States).
Hmm, it probably won’t do it when I’m back home until I next have a long road trip in it….and it’s on those trips I’d rather it wasn’t doing this. Gotta love intermittent issues - would be far preferable if it did it all the time then more chance of it being fixed.
Anyway, I’m at the north coast now so will see how I get on after another days driving back south now - it’ll be totally fine until mid morning I expect
