OK After selling my 993 back in 2009 for £16k (oh the benefit of hindsight) and a dabble with different brands, I'm now looking at the 911 again. Have just sold an F Type V8R and I love the look of the 991's. I know they don't have the noise and are slower (in a straight line anyway) but they do look good.

Basically I'm thinking the 3.8, PDK, PSE as a minimum but anything else I should be looking at? I don't have a massive budget circa £45k ish. They are around that price... I've monitored for a few months on the various selling platforms.... and some seem to still be on sale even after two/three months!

Not posted on here for 5 years assume still nice people with friendly advice around smile

Bought mine in that config a few months back - came out of an 5.0 XKR which sounded epic of course. But the traction was laughable (even with Sport Contact 7s).

I would say, the noise is different - but do not worry, the flat six howl is fantastic with the PSE on - especially when you’re up in the rev range. The induction noise is epic and it’s right behind you obviously. And the pops and bangs on the overrun and downchanges is similar to the F Type, though probably not quite as mad as the early F Types.

I love the blend of sports car and GT; perfectly judged IMO. PDK is great, especially in Sport manual on the paddles - very snappy and for you an easy swap for the ZF.

One thing that will amaze you on a long run is the mpg. On a recent trip to the Cotswolds I averaged 34mpg, which is frankly bonkers for a 400bhp sports car.

Oh and the other thing is that the power delivery isn’t linear like the Jag 5.0 s/c - you get a real rush of power from about 4k ish to the 7.5 ish k redline. More drama than the Jags.

Agree with all of this... I've just done a long run coast to coast in France in my relatively new (to me) 991.1 C4S. I've owned faster cars, but it's plenty quick enough for today's roads - and I'm a huge fan of the PDK box, it's always in the right gear. The 3.8 is a very Jekyll and Hyde engine (which I like), it's not until you push it that it goes mental - most of the time it's 'relatively' calm. I prefer this to the low torque of the turbos and the smaller engine.

The pricing on these looks very mileage dependent, mine was 25k miles and these are around £60k - typically £59k. My search is still live on Autotrader, so I see them pinging me every week.

Getting a factory warranty is worthwhile whilst you can do it - there have been no issues on mine, but things like the active engine mounts are expensive to fix.

Similar sort of car background. I had come from 2 SLs - 500 and then a 63AMG. The 63 was fun and a great GT car with sporting pretensions.

I bought my first Porsche 2 years ago - 991 C2S Cab with 9K on the clock. The car has been a revelation. It has 200 HP less than the 63AMG but it is more fun, more visceral (especially from 4K revs). To echo Diderot's point the duality of the car is surprising. It will play the GT car when needed but turn into a raging bull when you hit the sport button. Don't even bother hitting the sport+ on the roads. The car becomes slightly intimidating in the way it hunts the revs.

I can also confirm the MPG is remarkable. I left Les Mans with a full tank and filled up at Eurotunnel in the UK.

The truth is it is all the car you need. You cannot drive any faster on the roads and it has the handling to remind you of a go kart.

Finally what convinced me to go for the 991 was the reliability of that engine. There are countless articles on here and other sites about the issues with the new 3.0 turbo engine. Furthermore this being the last NA engine in the Carrera range it is increasingly being seen as one to keep. I have been advised so by RPM Technik and another car dealer. If you can stretch the budget and get a good one I would advise you to do so. I paid £63K for mine 2 years ago and the current market value for my spec, mileage and year is in the 60K+ region.

Thanks for the replies everyone... Good to hear people have jumped from V8's and not been disappointed. And the reliability seems all positive from what I've read also.

The Jag was collected today so now the hunt begins for a nice Coupe!
