Strange one, having finally reached the position to be able to afford a nice 911 dream car, (max budget £40k) what would be a recommendation on one that would depreciate the least in 6-12 months. I won’t be doing more than 1000 miles a month.

I’ve been diagnosed with an illness so might not be around long. Ideally want something the family can sell and get maximum return on.

Not sure whether to look for a 991.1 or a rebuilt 997 or one of the last 997 models that I’m told don’t suffer from the ims/bore score issues

I'd say a manual 997.2 would fit your budget and needs.

Seconded. Manual (or PDK) 997.2. Manual if you are able but these are much rarer.

As above: definitely a 997.2 at that budget.

Sorry to hear of your illness. As others have said 997.2 is a surefire slow burn on depreciation. They're a perfect size/shape before the 911 started to get bloated.

Thanks I was leaning towards 997.2 models, think I’ll have a proper look. The 991 is so tempting but bottom end of the market at £40k I guess

Absolutely a 997.2 - ideally manual - private purchase and I can’t see a few years motoring costing very much in depreciation terms if at all. Hoping the best for you.

another vote for 997.2 manual coupe.

I also think a 996 C4S manual coupe could be a decent bet in terms of values, but slightly higher risk of big repair bill. This one sounds not bad:

996 Turbo every time. (Unless you can get a 997 Turbo within budget?)

I only regret buying mine because I feel like I'd be making a big mistake if I sold it for something else that seems "better" in many regards but might actually be worse in some... and despite meaning to sell it after a year of ownership, here I am with it 4 years on. nuts

My vote is for the 997, I have a 997 C2 manual and have had several 991's the GTS is great (991.1 or 991.2) but a manual 997.2 is a very sweet car, it's more 911 and has a very sold following. The challenge will be finding the right car, so have. Porsche dealer inspection on the car as well, most will be happy to facilitate so long as you pay

I’d say try and pick up a late 997.2 S.

We had a late pdk car for several years when new and it was faultless and the build quality was excellent.

Sorry about your illness diagnosis and hope the "might" becomes a lot longer.
Another vote for a 997.2 manual.
I had one in 2S variation ,one in 4GTS and one in GT3.
The first should fit with all your wants.

Sorry to hear about what you're going through.

Within reason it's a price point at which most cars shouldn't lose much. Id just go with the one Ive always wanted. For me it would be 996 Turbo. Sure you could get a nice one at that price.
