Hi all,

So I'm lucky enough to have a deposit down on a Turbo at RPM. They're going to refurb the wheels, and I'm sorely tempted to get them done in either satin silver, or maybe an anthracite colour instead of the polished wheels. However, I can't find a picture of the exact wheels (991.1) in a different finish to make my mind up.

So - to anyone else who's gone from diamond cut to another finish, what did you think, happy or wish you'd kept it standard?

Cheers,
Rob

If not was me I would definitely go for a darker solid colour, it makes the wheel for me look less 'flashy' and more sport's oriented

What colour is the car, the silver one on RPM's site ?

I had Porsche change my .2 GTS/Turbo S wheels to silver before i bought. Slightly different style to the .1 but would look just as good i recon.

I've just done the opposite. I've recently bought a 991.2 Turbo S which had black alloys.

I can't stand black wheels and they just looked lost against a black car. I got the dealer to diamond cut the faces before I collected.

I've also got a set of Turbo Exclusive style wheels on their way for a spare set for a bit of colour.

Not a Porsche granted, but I recently went from black diamond cut to full silver on the F82 M4, and I'm still happy that I did the swap.

Have you got some pics Lee. I thought of doing the same with my M4 Comp but sold it instead! Would like to see what it looks like.
Thanks

There's a finish called Black Chrome, which is the same as powder coating and can be applied in two tones. I've seen wheels that look like diamond cut but black chrome.

Thanks - they look great. If I still had my M4 Comp I think I would have gone down a similar route.

You're welcome, and I think they look even better in real life too. thumbup

I was a bit nervous about doing them at first, but I'm glad I did now though. smile

IMHO so much nicer than black wheels - guess it's an 'age thing' as my 21 Yr old son thought the black diamond cut alloys looked great!

Very useful. I didn't know you could do that so easily. I personally hate black wheels and have been excluding cars that have them as a brand new set would have cost ££.
Opens up more options especially when looking at GTS models.
Cheers

Definitely an age thing as you say, and I grew up with silver alloys, so it's what I'm familiar with. I've always liked the silver wheels on the 370Z too, so I knew there was a good chance I'd like them.

I didn't actually mind the black diamond cut when they were immaculate, but once they started corroding, I fell out with the way they looked though. So the swap to silver was a win win for me really.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.

It's on H&Rs dropped 30mm. Other than the black wheels it was the only concern I had before I bought it. It is pretty low, but I've yet to scrape the car anywhere and even negotiated my mum's very steep driveway, aproaching and leaving at an angle. It rides very well too on all but the most broken of roads, although I have a DSC controller on its way to hopefully iron out that small wrinkle. If I'm still not 100% then I'll get Center Gravity to swap the springs out when I get it booked in with them.

I've had plenty of 911s over the years, aircooled and watercooled. Before buying this I considered a GT3 Touring, but this is to be my year round daily, not that I do many miles. I've had plenty of cars that were difficult to enjoy in all weathers so decided to go for my first 911 Turbo and it hasn't disappointed.

Porsche left so much on the table with 991.2 TTS. I put it on the rollers for mapping and it makes for a pretty brisk drive. I should probably start a thread on the car.

That's good to hear - similar thought process to me, I wanted a car to use every single day - so no buckets, and I wanted a sunroof. I've gone for the .1 - I think the .2 is supposed to be improved in many ways, but I haven't driven one, so it won't bother me! biggrin
