PCCB vs Steels 991.2 GT3 on road ride
Discussion
Nope but I do have BBS FI-R’s and OEM wheels on my 991.2 which I do swap over….might be the placebo effect but I do think there’s a very slight difference in how the car rides. Obviously only something you’d notice immediately after change and on a road you know well.
They’re about half the weight saving of the PCCB’s.

Stunning wheel and interesting. Maybe not a major difference but a small improvement They re about half the weight saving of the PCCB s.
Reduced ‘unsprung’ weight (the mass of the vehicle not supported by the suspension) has a number of benefits, inc reduced NVH and improved ride comfort, because the suspension reacts more quickly to changes in the road surface, allowing the tyres to maintain better contact.
The combination of ceramic brakes and lwt wheels should provide the most noticeable difference.
This was brought to my attention 20 years ago, in a racing environment, and then further confirmed, in road use, by Geoff Turral when he was head of Porsche GB.
I ran a 996.1 GT3 on steels against a 996.2 GT3 on the then Gen1 pccbs and there was a noticeable improvement in road refinement.
For these and other reasons, I’ve specified pccbs since, specifically for road use.

Quite interesting talking about PCCB and going to steels.

Super expensive to replace, but not bad for 22 years and 8 owner car! Who know what it’s been through in those yearshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ6sYbFcdyM

The steels feel pretty good on a 911 - I am really not convinced about ceramics or indeed centre locks. I just want an easy life.

it's half the weight saving but as that saving is applied quite a bit further from the centre of rotation, the overall reduction on moment of intertia might well be greater for wheel rims vs brakes. curiously, that also applies to the weight difference between a shiny new and used tyre and while many regularly compliment the 'unsprung weight differential' for improved feel in ceramics vs steel but never negatively comment on a new set of tyres going on..... They re about half the weight saving of the PCCB s.
