991.2 GT3 exhaust rattle
Discussion
Has anyone experienced issues with their 991.2 GT3 exhaust?
On cold start up I have a very pronounced metallic rattle. Sounds like something loose and vibrating. Took it to my OPC who suggested it might be a loose heat shield. After further investigation they said it wasn't this but most probably something loose inside the exhaust system. This would mean taking the whole thing apart which sounds expensive.
The rattle disappears when the car is hot, although I did notice it whilst actually driving recently so maybe it's getting worse.
Any thoughts or solutions would be most welcome. Thanks

This sounds very much like the issue I had with my 997.2 GT3 exhaust. I was convinced I had a loose heat shield; however, it transpired that the baffles inside one of my pre-silencers were breaking down after 50k+ miles.
Whilst I think it’s possible to open up the silencer and attempt a fix, it’s anyone’s guess as to how long it would hold out so I decided to replace them. The cost new OEM pre-silencers was very punchy (£5k +VAT each), so I sourced a pair of valved bypass pipes from Ben at BC Fabs.

Mine, my neighbours 992 GT3 and my mates 991.2 all do this along with mine. It worried me at first but Porsche confirmed it was normal. I think it could be the flywheel from what I m told.
Ours was definitely an exhaust rattle, you could put a screwdriver to the muffler and hear it rattling about. It sounded like a loose heatshield in the engine bay.Gassing Station | 911/Carrera GT | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
