Cats bot covered by extended warranty?

A 7 month merry go round of visits to Porsche Glasgow finally came up with a diagnosis after the EML came on whilst driving to Sunstede on Friday.
Turns out the scraping sound I could hear which I suggested in November might be the driver’s side cat is in fact the cat.
Cost is £3341.62 but hasn’t been done under warranty. Is the cat normally a wear and tear item, and does anyone have a suggestion for picking up one for considerably less than that? It looks like they’re part of the header.

63k miles, been reporting it since high 50s.
Worst case I’ll order from a breakers, have done it before but ideally would claim warranty. I’ve asked Porsche GB for assistance with it.
If not it looks like around £600 but most of the ones on eBay look like they’ve been on the titanic.

Honestly, I'd push back hard on that. Cats aren't a wear and tear item that's them trying to wriggle out of it. If the internals have broken up and caused a scraping noise, that's a failure of the part, not something that wore out from age. The fact it took them 7 months to diagnose it doesn't help their case either.
For cheaper options, you can get aftermarket ones from Design911 for about half the price, or look at Bosch ones from Eurocarparts. Used ones from a breaker are cheaper but a gamble. Before you pay anything, ask Porsche for a goodwill contribution at minimum they've already messed you about for months.
