992.1 Carrera 4 GTS Water Pump Failure

I picked up the above car from an OPC at the beginning of the Summer . My intention was simply to run it through the Summer whilst I awaited my license becoming clear of Points then exchange it for something else . 7000 miles and almost four years old , the car was/is in mint condition and I decided to extend the existing PPF to cover the whole car as the paint was so good . All set for the Summer until the engine dumped all its coolant on the road just outside my house . Fortunately I got it onto the driveway with no further damage . A warranty claim followed for £5800 which covered a new valve block , water pump , clearing the lines and the associated diagnosis and labour followed . Parts took a few weeks to arrive and the car was gone for almost a month . I have her back and so far no further issues . As you can imagine I am monitoring that temperature gauge by the second when driving her . I was surprised to read that Porsche recommend these water pumps should be replaced every four years . Obviously the OPC when selling a Car wont replace something that isn't broken , but my purpose in posting is simply to give a heads up to others that if your 992.1 is approaching four years old , it may be something you want to consider .

Incredible costs that are racked up for warranty claims.

I’m not surprised that the water pump went as they seem to fail early on 991s as well. Mine failed last summer. There was no coolant leak, but I had the same symptoms again 6 months later and the solenoids that control the system were replaced. All good again, including a track day at Donington. I assume the valve block is the same as the solenoids.

My cost was around 1.8 rather than 5.8 though, but I think with anything warranty related the costs spiral. This then puts the fear of god into people that they must keep up the warranty! A good business model I guess.

7k and water pump goes, recommend changing every 4 years! What with the turbos also a weak point Porsche are becoming a bit of a joke in the quality build and reliability that they are meant to be known for, are the turbos and water pumps made of chocolate

I’m genuinely considering going back to Aston Martin . Of course you have the depreciation to deal with , but the AMG sourced engine is a good one and the interior better . I genuinely never thought I would say that but clearly VW are feeling the pinch financially and in comparison with past Porsche models , in the 992.1 I think it shows . I should tell you I said this to the better half when viewing the 992.1 when it was introduced . As always many of us just plunge ahead anyway saying “that’s what the warranty is for”😁

Is it a homework marking exercise going on?! Perhaps using perceived twice in the same sentence is a little lazy, but yes it did read better.

For those considering changing car on the grounds of reliability alone, I’m really not convinced that the alternatives are much better. All of them have very similar generic parts that can fail. Not many of the over-inflated barges out there steer like a 911 though.

There was nothing wrong with your grammar or sentence structure, I was merely seeking to highlight that any quality existing in Porsche's contemporary products is perceived rather than real, and that's been the case for some years now.
