Rear brake pads - extended warranty

Just had two new tyres fitted and noticed rear pads to 2mm. The car is under extended warranty (it's a 2016/17). I would like any thoughts on getting pads done by specialist using OEM parts. There is a lip in the discs but still under 1.4mm worn. It looks like an easyish job - question is, and note next service is 18 months out, I don't think Porsche woukd know at next service as they would be well bedded in by then.

Any thoughts / experience ?

I saw an advert by Genome (?) near Leeds a day or so ago. They were quite specific that if servicing was done to the timetable of Porsche, using OEM parts that it wouldn’t impact warranty- can’t imagine you’d put that out if there was going to be any doubts. So given what you’ve said I can’t see how it is likely to cause a problem.

Brake pads aren't covered under the extended warranty so get them done by an indie or do them yourself. It's the same as tyres, you don't need to have them fitted by an OPC as they are classed as a consumable so not covered under warranty although the policy wording does state:

'Service, repair or maintenance has previously
been performed on the vehicle by you or by a
third party who is not an authorised Porsche
Centre/Porsche Service Centre

• Non-Porsche Genuine Parts have been
fitted to your vehicle'



Just make sure you use OEM pads and discs.

Does the same count for DIY-ing replacement discs providing they’re Genuine Porsche parts and the caliper pins are replaced at the same time?

How would they know otherwise? The only issue you'd have if there was a fault with the braking system and you tried to claim under warranty. At that point they may want to see evidence of who last worked on the braking system.

I’ve got a couple of cars under extended warranty…items like brake pads I get done by RPM. Car goes to OPC for the servicing work.

I had a specialist do mine and I had the same warranty concerns. They supplied exactly the same disc\pads that Porsche use without the stamp and for much less. They are not a warrantied item on your warranty anyway.

Just be careful when speccing OEM.

Ensure it is Porsche GENUINE parts - some Indy’s classify parts made by same manufacturer but not Porsche as OEM which is not a Porsche branded part
