Hi everyone, I've just sold my 2013 Cayman S and am about to take delivery of a new Cayman GTS, on my S I had mobile phone prep and on this one I stupidly spec'd the one above mobile phone prep. Can I still use this as just a Bluetooth module and will it work the same or is it going to lock my phone into a Sap mode?

Thanks

Ollie

My 981 BS had the telephone module. It just connected to my phone via Bluetooth and sync'd all of my contacts. Not sure what you mean by SAP mode.

If you've got the Telephone module as opposed the Telephone preparation, according to the PCM manual you can switch between SAP and Handsfree protocols - "With mobile phones that support both protocols it is possible to switch between the connection types".

I've only got telephone preparation myself so I can't confirm that.

Thanks for the replies, so it doesn't lock your phone so you can't use it when connected. I believe you can have it either way on the expensive one however wanted to know how to change it myself.

Thank you

So does the Bluetooth work the same as the preparation one or will it take control of my ohine whilst connected so I won't be able to use the phone function.

Thanks

With PCM in the 9x1 you can connect via BT using HFP (Hands Free Protocol) where the handset is used for all functionality except vehicle based mic and speakers. OR SAP (SIM Access Protocol) where the vehicle based phone module is used with service via the handset SIM.

If a SIM card is inserted then BT connection is suspended.

You can also stream music via BT (from the handset used for calls AND from a second player if available (my other half has all our music I don't have any on my phone) switching between players is simple.

Watch out for latest iOS on apple products as when you update to different versions it changes some settings so just re-pair whenever you update.

I suspect the telephone module gives you an antenna for the telephone in the car.. so your phone doenst act as such anymore and allegedly signal should be better. Whilst the default phone preparation just acts as a mic/speaker for your phone to remain the main receiver of data.
