I think It's finally time ;-(
Discussion
With a heavy heart and after 8 years of Boxster ownership it's now time for me to finally sell my current Boxster. With ever increasing job demands and a baby on the way I'm just not using it. I think I've managed done 10k miles in 4 years and I can only see this going down.
I've been in two mind for the last year as it's been a great car which has never let me down, it's got all the extras I wanted and have been over meticulously serviced by the previous owners - I doubt I'll find another like it.
To those who are thinking of getting a Boxster, all I can say is just do it. They are truly amazing cars. I've has had a 986 and a 987 and both have been fanatic cars. I personally don't think you can get a better for the money.
I'm not sure what I'll go for next but I hope to be back in a Porsche in the future - they are truly amazing machines!

As much as I'd like to keep her with a baby on the way and after 8 years of Boxsters - I've put her up for sale.
I had a long conversation with myself, on the way back from getting her serviced and decided it is finally time. I just hope I'm making the right decision.
I can now start car shopping ;-)

We've just bought a family wagon to complement the impractical stuff now that we have a big dog. Went down the BMW E91 330d SE route + a BW Chiptune remap & swirl flap delete and it's an absolute hoot, highly recommend you try one out. We picked ours up for less then £5K on 135K miles. With the map it's 500lbft torque at 2100rpm and 275bhp at 4000rpm or so, 47mpg at 80mph on the motorway, good sized estate boot, seats 4 adults very comfortably, lots of leather and some toys - I genuinely enjoy driving it
Oh god man, keep the Boxster and buy a wagon for family duties, I run a mondeo for that purpose alongside the Porsche/MX5/XR2 and I'm glad because with the mud all over the back of the car and up the sides of the doors and backs of the front seats the other day, and the spilt coke on the rear carpets yesterday and tomato ketchup on the back seats this morning and the dented door....sorry do I need to carry on?
I considered a newer car (Freelander 2) glad I didn't because it would be a st heap by now.

Sold to the first guy to come and see the car - he came all the way from France! I'll be sad to see her go!
We have 3008 for family duties that gets replaced every year or 10k miles.
I can now start car shopping!!!
What?! You already had a family wagon for the mundane stuff and you still sold it?! Thou dost offend me sir! We have 3008 for family duties that gets replaced every year or 10k miles.

I know exactly what you mean , have just gone through the same process, had to choose between my Boxster S or my R400, I couldn't keep both, and despite the Boxster being awesome, it just never gave me the same buzz and thrill the R400 does every time I drive it. I will have another Boxster S though, when I've grown up good luck with the search, I sympathise.

I know exactly how you feel. Go out in a Caterham (pretty much any model) and it grabs you by the short and curlies and says "drive me" and whatever mood I'm in, I'm sucked in. Even an Elise isn't so compelling and no Porsche I've driven gets close. That's interesting, what Porsches have you driven? Some of the Ring videos look great fun in some of the big power 911s.
Having never had a Porsche until the Boxster, I can say now that I do get the "Porsche thing". If I had the spare money I would definitely like to try a high powered 911 for a year, but not at the expense of the R400.

Not driven any high powered Porsches (GT3 etc) personally, just run of the mill C2s and 4s and Caymans. My son, has, however driven on track or raced a number of road/Cup and FIA GT3 Porsches (and most supercars - but perhaps not a 991GT3) - and arranges track days. Of the road cars he recommends Caterhams and Exiges to his clients as the most fun track day cars - but they almost invariably choose Astons, Ferraris, R8s, GTRs etc.... That said, around the ring (particularly in something capable of the thick end of 200mph) I personally would probably prefer a few nanny aids to keep me out of the trees - an R600 might be a Caterham too far for me there.
I haven't much time (normally none at all) for Top Gear, but there is a report on the 991GT3RS on their website which might be of interest. It's somewhat ambivalent.
