987 Cayman 2.7 Market

I appreciate it's February but is the market for these cars as dead as a dodo?
I absolutely loved my car but losing my work parking permit took away any opportunity to use it. I tried advertising it privately, passed it to trade for sale or return, it has consistently been the most competitively priced car of its age, (low) mileage, (mid) spec etc (and nothing controversial in terms of colour schemes or spec). FYI Its a manual 5 speed. I'm currently inclined to take it back even though as a third toy and without family usability its just going to sit there on the drive 99% of the time.
Any thoughts or experience?

To be brutally honest, many buyers seem to not be willing to pay the asking prices.
There's 47 x 2.7 litre versions within 100 miles of me on Autotrader and the cheapest one is £14k.
Now I'm sure a lot of potential owners think they're better than the Boxster but there are good 'S' Boxsters going for a lot less (987 Boxster 3.2s (i.e. under 10 years old) start at under £9k).

Totally sympathise, when you say you have had it sor, was this with a porsche indy or with a general trader? I would go with a proper indy who can offer warranty etc to a customer. They are going to pull your pants down in price but not a lot you can do. Alternative is to wait till the summer starts and see if things pick up. What doesn't help is the morons on here and other sites who like lemmings just keep repeating the same dross over and over about the faults of the 987 and so any new potential owners who search end up convinced they are a bomb waiting to go off. Its with a local sports car specialist and will be sold with a decent warranty. They sell a lot of Porsches but not only Porsches.
I have no desperate need for the money (better than tied up in a car I cannot use but really no hurry). I sense that the dealer is losing patience. I believe that the car could actually make the asking price should it wait until summer but am conscious that on the one hand they want it off their forecourt and on the other hand they will want to charge me for the privilege of them trying to sell it for me for the past 4 1/2 months should I take it back...

Speaking as somebody giving serious consideration to buying a 2.7, I might be able to offer some buyers perspective.
Firstly, have I got the right car, silver and they also sell a lot of Jaguars?
If so, price, is it £17,950 as the ad title says or £20,950 the ad text says? Wheels, everybody is different, but I think the carrera s wheels are goping. Painted centre console is not to everybody's taste either.

Its a very competitively priced low mileage car. I appreciate initial pricing was optimistic (not at my suggestion). I'm increasingly inclined to take it back and try to find the opportunities to use it. Just a shame I sold the 17" wheels I ran it on as I personally prefer the old skool low grip handling they provide.

That's interesting, why did you fit the Carrera S wheels? During my research I have been building a list of must have's and must not have's. 17 are firmly in the former, 18's float somewhere in the middle, but 19's are definately in the later.The car left the factory on 19" Carrera "S" wheels.
17" wheels are very cheap - all the demand among non-enthusiasts is for 19" or 18" (with the bling bling crowd preferring 19"). I only ever ran the car on a set of Boxster II 17" in the summer and Cayman 17" on winter tyres in the winter. They were picked up for £300 (with good Michellin PS2) and £200 respectively so really should not be a deal breaker! Then just stick the 19" in the garage for resale.

I'm not sure where prices are on 2.7s but for reference I will be putting my RS60 Spyder up for sale privately at £18,750 soon which, even though has 58k motorway miles, has been kept in showroom condition, is very high spec, and reasonably rare. When I looked at other RS60s (lower spec, higher price, though some have lower miles) I thought it best to try and price accordingly so that it sells.Good luck anyway!

Hopefully over the next couple of years I'll get my parking permit back and be on the hunt for another Porsche. For the meantime its motorcycling for me, looking for a fun naked to add to my stable. If nothing else the bike is way quicker for commuting than any Porsche!

Prices of them have tanked. Realistically for a really good low milage one you'll be looking at around £15k private and a dealer is going to offer you f
k all. Best just to keep it as you can't replace it with anything anywhere near as good for the money.
