Handbook advises using jump leads from fusebox positive terminal, and a Fully charged spare battery is required. All carried out as advised---No result or noise of anything about to come alive. WHY?.Thanks for any help.

What happens? Does the starter make any sounds? Motor turn over? Light light up?

Auto or manual? Clutch depressed?

Does the key turn?

Measure voltage on the battery?

How long has it sat before your first attempt to start it?

I thought the fusebox terminal was just for getting the bonnet open in order to jump to the battery itself? It certainly doesn't look big enough to carry a starting current and I wouldn't want to do it that way when it's so easy to connect straight to the battery.

Using the fuse box is only for opening the boot.Page 246/6 tells you how to jump start the car from its battery to the donor cars battery.

Many Thanks for All you kind advice.Page 214 suggests using a fuse holder which pulls out of the fuse box, and allows a positive lead from a spare battery to clip on.I left the flat battery leads connected, and it didn't work.
Tried again today, but disconnected the lifeless leads and tried again with the booster leads------Job done------luggage lid opened to the safety catch.
