I have read a lot of on this subject. Why o why wont Porsche sort this out? Didn't they recall the Gen 1s?

Driving along around 30mph as pulling away from a roundabout. Gear stick goes all floppy. Trapped in third. Cannot find any gear. Somehow managed to limp home navigated some hairy slowing into traffic and lights.

Had to be recovered off my drive (embarrassing) and then £700 bill as not in warranty. (Although Porsche should just settle it themselves as ongoing dispute). Confirmed its the cable @ OPC.

Vehicle is 6 years old and only done 27,000 miles. No tracking and most of the 10,000 I've done been motorway miles.

All in all pretty shocking!

Hi Porsche have a modified kit that you change with the cables, its a support that replaces one on side of the box, looks like it changes cable angle and the main lever, also on the box, this has a 981 part number, but it £197.00.

^^^ at £197 it is cheaper than the original cables. If it is a permanent fix it seems good value - as it has a 981 number does it retrofit the 987?

Hi gsewell, the cables are £201.61, support £27.39 and the the lever is the £197.02.The cables have superceeded to new number(6 Speed boxster 2.9) and the support and lever are to be used with this cable.I think the lever is keeping the cable in a straight line, to reduce stress.

Hi Chris. Sorry if I'm sounding dim, but do you need to repalce all of the components you've listed or just the modified support bracket?

Hi trev450, you are supposed to change the support and lever with the modified cables, as they all are superceeded together, so when you look up the new cable part number, the system automatically brings up the other two parts.
