Watching my wife start up my boxster s this morning I noticed a puff of smoke come out of the drivers side rear wheel well. It was then another couple of seconds before exhaust fumes started coming out of the tail pipes. I have noticed a hot smell from that area before but put it down to the engine bay fan extracting through the vent on that side. It doesn't sound like it is blowing.
A separated exhaust joint might be to blame but then I would always get smoke from that area or out of the vents wouldn't I? Anyone else had anything similar?

Crack or joint that gets warm and expands and seals to change the exhaust from escaping to pass through?
Possible. I tried it today, no smoke but you can hear something when you blip the throttle, a sort of soft 'pop' that sounds like air coming in or out of something.Sadly academic now as a knuckle joint in the hood mechanism broke this morning when I was trying to raise the soft top. Luckily I was able to raise the hood by hand and the motor still moves the rear deck but definitely on for a visit to the dealer. Will get the exhaust checked at the same time. No doubt this will be a cheap visit..............
