Gen 1 Cayman S - Pat on the back
Discussion
Said goodbye to my cayman yesterday after over a year of ownership and just have to say what a cracking car it was.
Despite all the horror stories it didn't miss a beat and was genuinely one of the best cars I've owned (out of 30+) - Reliable, great handling and well built. I can't think of what more anyone else in the market for an everyday 2 seater could want.
Great cars in my opinion and would recommend to anyone
Cheers,
Dunc.

Totally agree, they are a great car and especially for the money now. Its easy to lose sight of the fact there are thousands of owners out there driving them every day, many probably totally oblivious to the internet hysteria. I have no desire to 'upgrade' to a later model because the performance difference vs cost just doesnt make it worth it, well that is unless the GT4 comes down to 20k in a few years time, ok dream on!
Well this post doesn't help !
I have 17k sat here waiting to buy a Cayman
At first I wanted a 3.4 then read about the bore scoring , so then I decided on a 2.7 but most seem to come with very poor spec
And I think the cayman looks so much better with multi spoke wheels as in the picture in this thread but again most 2.7 don't have these
so I don't know what to do , finally in a position to buy my dream car and i'm in perpetual limbo !

Get out and buy one.
I had my Gen. 1 car for 8 years,(ETA 3.4) and apart from consumables like tyres, brakes and a set of lower control arms, the only things it needed were a temperature sensor and a lambda sensor.
My experiences with other supposedly reliable makes; e.g. Audi, VW, Subaru were nowhere near as painless.

Oh hang on....ha ha... only 12 months... hilarious.
To be fair, I've had mine 5 years and the only two things that have failed have been the SPP amplifier (fixed by a bloke in Norway for €120) and an air-con pipe is leaking. CBA to get it fixed given it's only useful 2 weeks of a year, it's likely to cost in the region £400 to get it done (pipe is £180, 2 hrs labour and a re-gas), and there's a fairly decent chance it's not the only part that's leaking (the condensers are known to be made of cheese for a start). If I could rip the whole system out easily, I would.Actual reliability wise, I've been all over Europe, use it most of the year round (I only put it away while there's salt on the roads). and am with the OP in it being one of the best cars I've ever owned.
