Thought I would take advantage of the sunny weather here in Portugal and take the Spyder out for a blast. Then disaster struck! I put the key from my Toyota Rav4 into the ignition as I had both in the same pocket. Key went in fine so removed it and tried to insert the Porsche key. Key would only go in about 1/4 inch then was blocked. Feared the worst and envisaged nice big bill from OPC to recover the car and fit a new ignbition lock. So tried Google and got on to Rennlist forum where somebody had been as dumb as me (even using a Toyota key!). Amongst the usual "you need a new lock" responses was someone who suggested reinserting the Toyota key and turning the lock full to the left. It worked! the Toyota key came out and the Porsche key now works.
So if you are as dumb as me and do the same it appears any key will fit the ignition lock and turn the barrel but obviously will not start the car. If you turn the barrel clockwise it activates the locking bolts to ensure real key cannot be removed, but as I used the wrong key it could be extracted and leave the barrel "locked".
I realise only an idiot would do what I did but thought I would post as the symptoms look scary but the solution is simple.
Just wonder what the OPC would have done if I had called them out!

OPC probably would have used a Toyota key to fix the issue and then charged you for a new lock and two sets of keys wink
