My 964 had a habit of flattening the battery if left for more than a couple of weeks, and I beleive that the 987 will do the same. In the 964, I wired a Ctek indicator adaptor cable directly to the battery, so it was easy to connect the charger. Thought I'd do the same with the Boxster. I'm not keen on using the cigarette lighter or aux power point to connect the charger.

I'm struggling to find a route for the cable though, as I don't want to keep removing the battery cover, which is a bit flimsy. I'd rather have the connection plug in the luggage compartment, or behind the CD changer cover. The bulkhead between the battery compartment and the luggage compartment seems to be double skinned, with no easily accessible rubber grommets to pass the cable through.

Has anyone else done this? If so, how did you do it?
It's looking like the only option is to remove all the plastics under the front lid, extend the cable, and run it around the side and back into the luggage compartment.

Hi

Can I ask why you are not keen on using the cig/power point?

3 reasons. Cigàrette lighter plugs never seem to make a very good/reliable connection.
The comfort cable has charge status LEDs, so you can see when the battery needs charging.
The mains sockets in my garage are on the end wall, close to the front of the car.

I had mine wired in in the same way as I didn't want to use the cigar lighter either.

Paragon did my recent one on the R and the lead pokes out between the batery compartment cover and the plastic surrounding it. Its ideal but it sits in the gap nicely when not in use and doesn't interfere with battery lid removal either. Did this becuase otherwse it meant drilling holes through the bulkhead which isn't recommended!

I'll post up some photos tonight if I remember, its actually a lot neater than it sounds.

Photo would be appreciated. I did think of this, but was worried that there wouldn't be enough clearance between the plastics and the front lid.

Thanks. Just got my car and the dealer gave me a cig lighter trickle charger to use.

Plenty of people seem to use the cig lighter, so I guess it works OK. Personal preference.

Can't argue with the first point, and I haven't used mine enough to know whether it is an issue. It is, however, possible to get a cigar lighter socket with a comfort indicator.

That said I have indicators on both a cigar lighter socket and a battery connection socket and I find them pretty useless (on three different cars) - almost invariably saying the battery is low unless you have just come back from a run.

I've just got round to fitting the cable. I removed the luggage compartment plastic covers on the passenger side, and found a large rubber grommet between the battery compartment and the CDC compartment. No cables going through it, so I made a slit with a sharp knife for the cable to pass through.
The cable wasn't long enough, so I extended it with a some 20A twin core, soldering and insulating the joints.
The connector sits inside the CDC compartment.
