Help/Advice, Sell or Upgrade!
Discussion
Hello!
Classic catch 22...
I have a 2012 cayman, 2.9 which, I love!
I've had it now for over 2 1/2 years and am considering upgrading to a a 911 (997) or the 981 cayman s models. (had considered m4/m3)
I just fancy something now with a bot more power, but the interior and extra's of the newer models does appeal!
I have some finance to settle on the cayman, so i wondered if anyone had sold a similar model privately recently as the part exchange value doesn't seem fantastic...
I would be minded to make some mods and upgrades, maybe body kit and engine remap etc. But the 2.9 cayman looks limited in terms of upgrades, so wondered if/what mods people have experience of for these?

Speak to Parr about the turbo upgrade if you want a proper power jump in your current car. Otherwise it's not really worth the effort/cost tuning N/A, so go for a faster car instead.
Personally I find power upgrades to be short lived and unsatisfying. The initial extra grunt is exciting, but ultimately you get used to it fairly quickly and want more. Regardless of how much power you have. Personally I'd rather have a car that's better balanced and concentrate on getting more out of me and the car as a driver. So for example, stick the 17" wheels on your 2.9. The balance of the car will change (it'll understeer less), and with less grip it'll be more challenging to drive as the limits will be lower. Cheap easy involvement upgrade![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)

I was in a similar position to you with a Gen1 Cayman S, loved it but wanted to try something else that would give me what I already had just a bit better and sharper.
I looked at 997 CS but just can't get the feel of the 911 and don't enjoy the drive as much as the mid engines. Very very nearly bought a new Cayman GTS but after a complimentary half day at Silverstone in the car I wasn't as impressed as I had hoped, too digital.
Tried a Cayman R and it flicked a switch, bought it, love it - on paper it's not much on my old car but you quickly realise it's far more than a few upgrades.
