Hi there, i am looking at getting a Cayman and going to take a look at this one tomorrow

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

This will be the first Cayman that i have viewed so could do with some pointers.

I like the idea of the PDK gearbox but not to sure what the "Sport Chrono Package Plus" entails? speaking to the dealer there is a clock on the dashboard but not sure what else there is.

Any pointers would be good, or even alternative cars

Looking for Gen 2 car with a budget of £27-28K

Thanks in advance

I'm in a similar position to you, possibly looking for a Cayman Gen II PDK, but my budget is less than yours so hope to find a private seller. I'm not an expert, far from it, but I've done some research on options and I think that the following mat answer your question...

Sport Chrono Package - sportier engine tune and chassis at press of a button
Sport Chrono Package Plus - lap timer working with PCM below.
PCM - Porsche Communication Management (Navigation/Touch screen/CD/DVD)

I assume that you cannot have Sport chrono package Plus without first having the Sport chrono package but hopefully if I'm wrong someone more knowledgeable will correct me.

Thanks for your reply,

There seams to be a mind field of models with different engines gearboxes suspension etc combinations, finding it hard to try and get a grip on them. We could go for a late Gen 1 car with a bigger engine but been put of a little by the stories of the engines so hence why Gen 2

Will report back once i have looked at the one in the link,

Essentially if you want PDK, you will want the sport design wheel with flappy paddles. As the standard wheel is so counter intuitive it's almost like they they designed it that way so you'd spend more on the wheel that actually works... Much like stunting the performance of PDK if you don't spec Chrono (so you want that too).

Steering wheels are for steering the normal wheel does a good job and has controls to allow you to change the tunes.

Sytner have a number of Porsche dealerships so your first question should be why this isnt being sold as an approved used car - check the over-revs etc

On a PDK really lol

Not being funny and my mate feels the same, the 2.9 PDK is about the worse car they build IMO.

PDK does not suit the 2.9 at all , and although I am a manual man, I do see the point in PDK and my mates gen2 3.4 is PDK.

But the 2.9 PDK IMO is a bit of a wet lettuce.
Comic ride heights like a tractor and the gearing is so long the engine cannot pull it.
Put it in 3rd and it seems to take a age in hat gear.

I think that PDK is suited to the 2.9 - which needs revs and pulls from around 4k rpm.
The sport chrono plus adds the aggressive gear change programme and sharper throttle map to help.
Car looks like a good example - they haven't mentioned the full leather option in the ad.
Check to see if the satnav has had the 7 digit postcode update. - this was offered at about £150 by dealerships.

Seems expensive - compared with Cameron Sports cars stock list for example. http://www.cameronsportscars.com/results.php

Thanks for the replies.

Well that did not go to well ! was at the dealer first thing this morning 1st one there. There was a mix up as there were 2 people coming to look at caymans both with the same name so they thought i had come see a older one. Anyway onto the right car, first impressions of salesman Seth was not good ! and this got worse when half way though looking over the car the other guy turned up and then Seth went and dealt with him.

We were left with the car open but no info and no keys, they car was never started up and i had to ask for information. The car was filthy and looked like it had been left outside for a number of days, there was a sign saying "awaiting prep" but still you would not put a car in that condition on the sales pitch.

Suffice to say it got a lot worse! and we walked O and by the way the other guy who had come to view the other Cayman also walked.

All in all not a good experience.

You did the right thing imo. If they can't be bothered to prep the cars prior to displaying and the salesman can't give you the assistance you require then they don't deserve your business.

I have left a whole lot out of this as it is just not worth the effort to type it up, but it was not just us who got the same treatment, the other guy who had drove from Manchester got the same "you either buy it or don't line" and like i said we both walked out of there.

Some of the OPC's I've spoken to seem a have a pretty slapdash approach to service, whereas others seem to be much more on the ball. Is there any link to whether they are owned by Porsche or franchised?

would think all OPC are franchised but might be wrong

Some are clearly not owned by Porsche, but are instead owned by Sytner or other car dealers - the Mayfair OPC told me that they were actually owned by Porsche.
