981 - Does PASM provide a smoother ride ?
Discussion
Test drove a 3.4S with PASM and 20" wheels and was very impressed with the smooth ride of the car.
Then test drove basic spec 2.7 on 18" wheels with no PASM and found ride to be more basic.
From this I concluded PASM was a must for my car search, but I'm getting conflicting information from dealers who state this would NOT improve the ride quality, but stiffens for corners etc.
I've read and understood the description of PASM from the Porsche literature but I'm now confused if my initial assessment of PASM is now correct re ride quality
Thoughts anyone ?

PASM makes a significant difference to the ride quality. The springs and anti-roll bars are actually stiffer than standard (and the car is 10mm lower), but the dampers vary depending on road conditions and driver behaviour, from much loser than standard to a fair bit stiffer . In sport mode the dampers vary from slightly softer than standard to much stiffer. The net result is on a bumpy road the ride certainly is generally better than standard - and really rather good in standard mode. However the (slight) downside is that sometimes the adaptive bit gets caught out and the car can feel a bit "floaty". The fix is simple - use sport mode. The ride is still pretty good but the car feels more planted and has better steering feel.
Personally I use sport mode most of the time and only switch to standard when cruising or on particularly broken roads.
Sometimes, because of the adaptive nature, it is difficult to tell which mode you are in, but in reality the difference is quite noticeable when pressing on, or if the the roads are bad.
Incidentally mines on 19" wheels which do give a better ride and less tyre roar (though still too much) than 20"
