Speccing my new Boxster and wondering whether the PSE is worth it on the 2.7. Also do you need Sports Chrono pack to get the most out of it? Thanks for your advice

I'd say PSE is always a nice to have. Don't think Sports Chrono makes any difference, others may be able to confirm...

I have a 911 but I can't imagine its that different. Always yes to PSE, Sports chrono you can do without, pointless in a manual (I think so anyway) fun in a PDK though not a necessity unless you intend to track the car, or launch it, but it will help resell value down the line.

PSE when buying new is always worth it. Do it or regret it.

PSE is a personal thing if you like it fine and since it's clearly a popular option it won't hurt residuals much, though as with most things you won't get your money back. Some of us are not so keen.. and I understand it will be banned shortly, so may ultimately become socially unacceptable.

SC isn't worth it on a manual but on a PDK really transforms the car

Be careful what you wish for. 30+ years ago motorcycle exhausts were deemed by the powers that be to be anti-social. The result was (quite unreasonably) draconian noise regulations - noise being measured at 5500 revs. The result is that even to this day many bikes still have a flat spot at those revs to get around the regs and (legal) ones make rather uninspiring whirring noises for much of the time. Didn't fix the noise problem - just caused the (illegal) aftermarket exhaust market to flourish.

I see what you mean but my comment was somewhat tongue in cheek, PSE is not that loud, plus, any future regs won't be backdated to old cars, so he should be safe smile

I agree, they are not going to have a recall on every car made with a bit of attitude before the new regs come in to have the exhaust muted.

It's a nice to have on a 2.7 I would say, more people would look for it on a highly specced 3.4

There would be other options that would be better for resale, such as PCM, but if you ticking lots of boxes already then PSE is a welcome addition. You will get a fraction of the cost back, so spec what you like -0 have you listened to one on a 2.7?

Hi, thanks for all the feedback - very useful.

I have not heard it on a 2.7, but have heard it on a 3.2 and a GTS - both of which I thought were awesome. Just wasn't sure if it made as much difference on a 2.7 - but seems like the consensus is to get it. I am speccing a lot, so for me PCE is at the end of the wishlist rather than at the beginning. I have specced PDK as well and had experienced Chrono on a 3.2 and a GTS and again wasn't sure if it made much different to a 2.7 - appears it makes it more lively / spirited but does not majorly alter the drive of the car - will have to think on that one. I was told by my OPC that the PSE does not work without Chrono - but none of you have mentioned that so I guess that was part of the 'sales patter' to get me to spend more!! If the PSE works fine without it I may not bother with Chrono.

If the PSE doesn't work without SC on the 981 that must be a new one because it does on everything else. Completely different button. If you are going for PDK in my opinion you MUST get SC as it really does make a difference.

While I'm sure you are right, they are very unlikely to require you to remove the feature, but even under existing "EXCESSIVE" noise regs they (or a particularly cussed officer) COULD deem its use illegal. I doubt this is likely at the moment - but much more likely when such systems are banned on new cars.

Don't know how many REALLY noisy bikes result in prosecutions today ( I suspect not that many ) but BIG BROTHER is alive, well and getting stronger...
