My 2009 Gen II Cayman 2.9 appears to have a fault with the automatic climate control.

With the ignition on/engine running I can press the 'Auto' button and adjust the temperature to 21 deg for example, but when I turn off the ignition then turn it on again and start the engine the climate control reverts to manual and 19.5 deg. This happens every time I start the car.

I'm not aware of there being any memory function associated with the key so I assume this is a fault.

Has anyone else heard of this fault, and if so what is the solution?

Thanks.

f the car is specced with Individual Memory then it is likely the AC settings have been fixed.

In the PCM, select Info > Options > Settings > Individual memory; the settings for locking, wipers, lights and AC are set within the function

My car doesn't have the individual memory option, so I can rule that out but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Can anyone else confirm whether or not their Gen II Cayman retains the 'Auto' setting on their climate control or does it always revert to manual when turning the ignition off and on again? I've looked in the manual and it says the settings should be retained.

I've also noticed that...
If the cruise control indicator light was illuminated when the ignition is turned off, it remains illuminated when the ignition is turned on again.
The radio display should (I think) show the selected channel with an orange border but whenever I turn the ignition off and on again the channel in the top left corner has the orange border even though I had tuned in to another channel before switching off.

My climate control stays where it is but the cruise control sometimes acts like yours but not always

Hi mine is a slightly later model but it sounds as if the key settings have been stored in the pcm try the settings option and chose what settings you want for each key this includes temp settings default radio settings etc. Hope this helps

It won't be the key if the OP says his car doesn't have individual memory settings, but I have to say sounds suspiciously like it to me too.

My gen2 always stays on auto never switches to manual of its own accord.

Thank you for your contributions. I may have been a numpty.

I've re-read the relevant sections in the owners handbook, and that has referred me to page 100 of the PCM handbook where it describes how to store your personal A/C settings. I've done this now so will post back here in a few days to say whether or not everything is working as expected.
