Passenger window presently fully opened, when i attempt to close the window, window moves up temporary to close, then immediately stops and goes back to the fully open position.

Before replacing the window regulator, is there any other option I should consider before doing the same?

Try doing a window reset

1. Turn the ignition on
2. Put the windows all the way down/all the way up 3 times.
3. On the 3rd time, hold both switches all the way up for 3+ seconds

Don't think the behavior is from the window regulator.

When the inside/outside door handle is pulled the window should drop a fraction of an inch. This is a sign the door handle switch is working right.

If you release the handle without opening the door the window should go up again. This is a sign the door latch switch is working right.

If you go ahead and open the door the window should stay down. This is another sign the door latch switch is working right.

If the window goes down when the door handle is pulled and the door open but goes up or moves any afterwards that is a sign the door lock mechanism (an electro-mechanical device) is flaky.

While I don't think it will help -- I hope I'm wrong -- you can try resetting the window limits. Not sure where that 3 times up and down procedure came from.

The proper procedure should be in your car's owner manual. For my 2002 and 2003 MY cars the procedure is to use the lower button and press and hold and lower the window completely. Please the button. Then press and hold the raise button until the window is all the way up. Continue to hold the raise button down for 5 more seconds. This resets the window limit. (I think I hear a faint click from the door a few seconds after the window reaches the top of its travel.) Repeat this procedure for the other side. Done.
