987.2 CS knocking when turning
Discussion
There are a number of suspension components at the front end of a 987 that can go (I know from experience, having gone through the motions with my 986 and now potentially suffering the same symptoms in my 987.2).
Coffin arms (suspension control arms) have a ball joint at the outer edge, right behind the wheel. A known problem, this dries up as the rubber wears in time and can deliver all sorts of creaks and groans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wltTZ8TAgmw
Strut top bearings can also go, as above, leading to creaks whilst turning. In both these cases, I think it's more a case of an aggravating noise than an immediate danger to the running and performance of the car, but obviously get this double checked by a mechanic.
Finally; front drop links and anti-roll bar bushings. If you can feel the "rattle" through the steering, it might be either of these. I had intended to replace the latter on my Boxster (having done the rest myself); parts cost £15-20 and can be done with the front up on ramps, the under tray clipped off and a screw driver to release the two worn bushes.
