hi all,

Just pulled the trigger on a lovely 1999 boxster 986 today And so have joined the gang! Lovely example (I hope) picking up next weekend and very much looking forward to it. I also have an mx5 mk2.5 that I will never sell so should be an interesting comparison.

So any recommendations for upgrades etc (I do like to tinker)?

Any decent groups meet in the Berkshire area?

Hoping to pick up in time to drive to silverstone next weekend.

Cheers

Chris

Congrats - Looking to pick one up myself soon - but waiting for the 'right' car at a budget - which is difficult.
Looking forward to your reports - It would be good to see.

I arrange meets via Boxa.net in the Surrey/Hants/Berks borders area.

My advice is to tinker with the TV or the dishwasher or something else and leave the Boxster alone.

The Boxster is darn near perfect. While you can change this or that, add that or modify that, often the result in more noise, and not the good kind either (and with my hearing going away I urge everyone to avoid loud noises when/if possible), or the engine acts up at various times, turns on the CEL or just becomes less than it was before the modification.

Develop a good servicing schedule and enjoy the car whenever you can.

I bought a 2000 986 S just over a week ago now, have to say I'm ruddy loving it. It feels brutally fast to me, my old Elise S2 190 was nippy but this is just silly. It just keeps on pushing, relentless, through all the gears, I have to be a little careful to keep it within the legal limits as when I look down at the speedo I have been surprised a couple of times smile The sound of this thing is just lovely, quiet respectful in low revs but put your foot down and things get angry quite quickly. Anyway, not telling you guys anything you don't know ey?

Anyway, here she is..

Looks nice mate, how much did you give for her if you don't mind me asking (ballpark)

Got 4 cars on my shortlist but leaning towards a 986 with every passing day.

I don't mind sharing that information at all, it was £6000.

It's done 63k miles, stupidly clean, bodywork as good as you're going to get for a 15 year-old car and has the tan interior which is what I was looking for. To be honest, I don't really know if that's a good price or not. I see some a bit cheaper and some a bit more pricey, but as I didn't see others that matched exactly what I was after it's hard to judge whether I got an ok deal or not. I was looking for quite a while for something that ticked the boxes and this just blew me away. It's got lots of stamps, loads of paperwork and had a minor service the day of the sale.

Getting up at 0530 to go to a job you don't what to do is not a pleasant thing, this makes me at least look forward to the first bit. Then, all day, I'm looking forward to the drive home smile
