Long story short, I'm currently looking at a low milage 981 Cayman S at a very attractive price but there's a catch - the interior is red.
Normally that colour would be a complete no-no but I've seen it in person and it wasn't quite as terrible as I expected. I think there's a chance it could grown on me over time.
Exterior colour is black.
I would really like to hear some experiences from owners with red interiors - have you regretted the choice? How well does it wear? Are the seats as sensitive to colour transfer as the beige ones? (i.e. blue jeans)
Rest of the option list is quite long - manual, 20", PCM, Burmester, PASM, PCCB, PTV/locking diff, Sport Chrono, Bi-Xenon/PDLS, PSE, heated and ventilated seats, full leather (of course) and some more options, zero overrevs, porsche approved warranty, etc.
I know the purists will have a field day but it would be my daily driver for a year or two. I imagine resale will be "challenging"?

Do you like it?
I feel like I shouldn't but I do!The question I am asking myself is if I will still like it after sitting in it for a long trip or after living with it for months. It is very red after all.

Black foot mats and a black steering wheel would help break up the red and also wear better but I'm not sure how that would look.

Not for a nanosecond.Very well - still looks good at 65k miles.
No colour transfer.
IMO there is nothing classier than a silver sportscar with a blood-red interior.... oh yours is painted black you say?
I'm biased because I have a red interior and hate dark black interiors. I think it's fantastic, especially against a white/grey/black exterior. However I have black overmats and seat backs and centre console in exterior colour which breaks up the red nicely. Otherwise it would probably be a bit too red.
No colour transfer whatsoever after 12 years and 60k miles, but I generally avoid wearing blue jeans when driving. Colour has held up much better than my Silverstone (light grey) BMW interiors.

I had red interiors in my 987S and my 981S Boxsters.
they are wonderful, but very hard to photograph. you need to see it for yourself to figure out whether you like it.
I loved mine, more so at night with the roof down or up
red interiors (all red ones, rather than 2 tone black/red ones) are all 'natural' (dyed) leather, which is higher quality leather than standard (painted) leather
I had no issues with dirt or colour transfer .. all you need to do is wipe the leather with unscented and pure baby wipes occasionally.

I recently bought a 981 Box. It has a black interior but I was looking at one with a red interior for sale at the same garage. I thought it looked great but it sold before I could choose. Both cars were white. I'm less convinced with a matching red roof though, think i'd prefer that to be black.
the problem with Porsche interiors in my opinion is the black is too black and the red is too red. on some of the 911s you sometimes see them with half red and half black just wish they would have done that on the boxster and cayman. my Spyder has a black interior but i covered the lower dash in red alcantara plus some other parts and think it makes for a more pleasurable interior. thats my opinion only and i have to go with the previous coment on photographing red, it never looks right in pictures
my last 2 beemers have had red leather and I love it, only downside is it did used to mark with denim jeans but a quick wash every few weeks and was fine . I was looking for a 981 Boxster and really wanted white with red roof and red interior til I actually saw one, the seats were fine but the one I looked at had red carpets , dash , door trims , steering wheel, seat belts the lot, looked like someone had poured a bucket of red paint everywhere , I just couldn't get away with it so I walked away, when mine was in for service earlier this year I had a new Boxster as courtesy car in grey with the same red and have to say over a couple of days of driving it never appealed to me I actually thought it looked cheap, I looked for a while but never saw one with Black trim and red seats eventually gave in and the car I bought has black leather and that is just boring . imo of course.
