Carpet on bottom of doors wet
Discussion
The bottom of the carpet that is part of the door card is very wet on both doors of my 987 CS. There is no water getting inside the car - carpets, etc, are all dry, but I'm gussing this isn't as it should be. The seals don't appear to be damaged and I can't see anything else untoward. Any ideas please?
There's a plastic membrane between the door card and the metal of the door that acts as sort of a shower curtain for any water that makes it past the horizontal window seals. This membrane has either come away from the door (it's glued in place) or been damaged during a repair. The door card needs to come off and then the membrane repaired/replaced as appropriate.
It is a metal piece but with a bit of foam along the bottom. My carpets were wet on both doors after heavy rain and the car had bad condensation as a result. Cured with a new membrane on each side, about £400 all in fitted with VAT. Think they got damaged when a car audio place took them out to fit dynamat although it could have just perished too, mine is a 2006 MY car

Hi Trev450,does sound like door membranes,
But they are metal on 2005 onwards.Have u had any previous work done inside the door, for example have the window regs been done.If yes the membranes can be bent away from door and no longer seal.

Hi Chris. Yes both window regulators have been changed during my ownership so membranes sound favourite. But they are metal on 2005 onwards.Have u had any previous work done inside the door, for example have the window regs been done.If yes the membranes can be bent away from door and no longer seal.

Thanks.
Trev.
Membranes most likely. Door bottom wet on my 2002 Boxster. I removed the door panel and the membrane was not sealed very well. The door had been apart a few years back to have a new window regulator installed.
I took the car to the dealer and had the membrane resealed. The door bottom was dry after a light rain but wet again -- but not as wet as it was before the membrane was resealed -- after a much heavier rain. Then the driver's side door bottom was sopping wet. This door was apart a few years ago to have the window regulator replaced. The same tech did both regulators and apparently didn't do a thorough job of resealing the membranes. But in his defense the window seals were probably not leaking then either.
At the dealer awaiting new window seals. Another tech is doing the window seals. (The tech who did the regulators has moved back east to work at another dealer.) These leaking seals are allowing water into the door. Should have the car back early this week.
As an aside, in the meantime I've driving a new Cayenne Diesel loaner. I have my Turbo as my back up but I got a loaner so I wouldn't have to drive the Turbo. The Turbo is "scheduled" to go in for an oil/filter service and new coils as soon as the Boxster is back in my hands and water tight. Big rains a'coming! El Nino and all that...

£400 to seal a door membrane, where's the £10 sealant. I had the same issue the other day. That's my plan now. Silicon seal it. Or failing that I will get some prc that I use for sealing aircraft panels. That stuff seals anything.
£400 was for 2 brand new ones fitted, not a reseal.I have taken the door panels off myself & broken them & then they rattled for the rest of the time I owned the car. Never again
