Purchased a Boxster S this weekend. A few questions....
Discussion
Hi All,
As per the title, I became the owner (or my Mrs did!) of a 2004 Boxster S this weekend. It was a good deal for us but has a few little niggles, which I'd like an opinion/advice on.
It only has one key. The key buttons are mashed and hence the remote locking/unlocking doesn't work. This is a PITA as the alarm goes off the second you unlock it with the key. The book says it should give 10 seconds - it doesn't. Is this adjustable somewhere?
Following on from that - how big a deal is it to get a new key and how expensive is it likely to be? I guess we can talk to a Porsche dealer, but I guess this is going to be expensive... Anyone know a reasonably priced alternative?
Finally, the sat nav CD is 2005. I have to say, it's the most complicated Sat Nav I've ever used! If we get the later CD's as advertised on Ebay etc, will it update the software and become something close to being usable? The current one doesn't even accept Post Codes!
That said, it's a great car!
Thanks in advance for any and all advice and help.
Bill.

Check out ebay, there's a guy on there doing repairs to Porsche fobs. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-911-Boxster-Remo...
you will need to cough up at an OPC to get a second key (I would do that before sending my only key off to an Ebay fixer). Be very careful with trying to update the PCM firmware and SW, I went down this road on my 997 and its a bit of a minefield, if you apply a firmware update to the earlier systems (2004 could be one) you will wreck it, I had to buy a later amplifier and substitute it before doing the upgrade...even then I think I only got 4 or maybe 5 digits to enter the postcode. In reality you are better off just buying a decent tomtom which will be streets ahead of this old stuff from Porsche (its the same will all satnavs).
