I've had my 996 turbo for just over 5 years now and my itch to change is getting harder not to scratch!

I was toying with going 991 N/A next but can't help noticing how good the Boxster looks now. I'm finding the red 981 that 911 Virgin have for sale at the moment very appealing and seems nicely spec'd too, especially the 20" Carrera S wheels and PSE.

This one has:
20" Carrera S wheels painted black with Silver circumference
PSE (Porsche Switchable Sports Exhaust)
PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management)
Sport Design steering wheel
Sports Chrono Package Plus
Wind Deflector
Bluetooth telephone preparation
Over mats
Air conditioning
Electric windows, mirrors
Power-fold fabric roof
PSM (Porsche Stability Management)
Power steering
ABS
Remote central locking and Thatcham Category 1 alarm / immobiliser.

As I'm not really up to date on what options are desirable or a must come resale, I'm interested to hear what options, if any I need to add to the list when the hunt begins.

I went from a 996T to 981 Cayman S a few months ago.
In relation to 991v car, I think I would add the sports seats (they're much better), and seat heating. The leather dash also looks much better (I don't have it). PCM is normally important for resale (I don't see it listed).
Mine is PDK, no PSE, otherwise similar spec to 911v car, but also has PTV, PCM, and PDLS.

I've got on ok with comfort seats in mine but yes, sports would be nice but not a dealbreaker for me. Heated seats would be welcome.

Mr pg, what are the PTV, PCM and PDLS options?

Porsche Torque Vectoring, Porsche Communication Module (sat nav), Porsche Dynamic Light System. All from memory, so hope that's correct.

My turbo had comfort seats, but when trying Caymans, I found the sports versions are a worthwhile option in comparison.

PTV includes LSD (limited slip diff). Regarding sports seats : Access can be an issue with the cars if you can't open the doors fully (often the case because they are so long) - sports seats exacerbate the problem, particularly if you are short. So I would try getting in and out with the hood up before you decide.

To a certain extent yes. I can only open my door by about a 1/3rd when in my garage, but manage with some dexterity (have to slide seat back too). The sports buckets were however, a non-starter in this respect after trying those.

Not all that fussed about the sat-nav unless it's improved significantly over the last few years. PTV would be nice option but now you mention the PDLS, I realise the 991V car doesn't appear to have Xenon lights (no visible washers). Can Xenons be specified separately or are they always part of the 'PDSL' option?

And any regrets swapping to a Cayman? Miss the power but your licence isn't at as much risk now smile?

Cheers Paul.

Thanks bcr, if the right car pops up with sports seats, trying them will answer the question to some extent.

Lol, I'm in 2 minds about parting company with the turbo, but the more I look at the Boxsters, all I can hear is "buy me, buy me, buy me......."

I think you get standard, zenons, then PDLS (with zenons).

LeighB. I went from a 996 Turbo (which I had for 5 years - same as you!) to a 987 Bosxter Spyder back in 2010. Still have the Spyder - our sixth anniversary in March!. I had no regrets whatsoever - though accept that the Spyder is a different proposition to the 981. I thought I would miss the acceleration/handling of the Turbo - I haven't.

I also9 have access problems in my garage (plus back age related back problems) and went for the Sports seats (Not buckets) and have had no issues.

Wish you success in finding right car for you.

Hi, Tricky decision.

Your 996T is now considered a desirable classic & prices can only go north. It will be an appreciating asset. Two Porsche's I have regretted selling was my 993 & 996T. However, jumping from the 996T into my 997 Gen 2 - the 997 feels so much more modern & mechanically much better. The 981 Boxster S will also have a more modern cockpit & feel better mechanically. The 981 Boxster however will depreciate like a modern car (but less so than say a BMW/Audi/Merc etc) unlike your 996T. Like the colour combo of the 911v car & its manual with PSE which is nice. Looks a great car. For what its worth I'am just about to go from 997 Gen 2 to a 981 Spyder (similar colour to this one).

My 996T Coupe is going at the end of the month....

Mind you - Mrs MMT has a 996 Turbo S convertible, so I think that we'll manage...!!

New Boxster looks lovely but your Ruf tweaked 996t is a very special car and its grunt will be missed. I'd be tempted to go retro and buy a very early ambers lights Boxster 986 S if you fancy some roof down motoring and keep the 996t

Thanks WG smile

I'm sure I'll miss the performance if I decide to sell it but I'm finding these days you just can't exhaust all that power without fear of damaging ones licence due to the pesky camera vans and the volume of traffic. But that's another story!

Good to hear you had no regrets so food for thought for me there.

And this is the dilemma I face, you're quite right Andrew that the values are certainly only going one way at present. And which fool would sell such a car to buy one that'll only go the other way in the foreseeable future banghead

It's just that damn itch is so annoying biggrin

Hi there, yes, I'll certainly miss the grunt.

There's always more than one option isn't there, I have a mate with a 986S that is currently undergoing a refresh in almost every department that will be available near the end of this year, so could do that.

I also have an option on a rust free '77 3.0 SC for the right money which I'd love to backdate, but fear it may stretch my funds too far.

I fear I'm developing more than one itch now.....
