In a Gen 2 987 Boxster with PDK and Sports Chrono package do you get launch control?

I've been looking at photos of one online, on the center console, the very bottom row of buttons shows the spoiler raise/lower, some sort of suspension option and then a third button next to that - what would that button be - I can't see it clear enough in the photos!

I've included said picture below if it helps! The low res is exactly why I can't work it out for myself.

I have the 3.4s, 987 gen 2 with pdk and sport chrono. No launch control or suspension option. Unless it cuts in automatically with sport+ setting. Never tried a full poke start though.

If you have PASM you get the suspension button. If you dont then you do not.

This is interesting. I have a similar car; 2010 Cayman S. It has two 'sports' buttons. One says Sport and the other Sport +. They sit in the same position as the OP's, next to the spoiler button. I do not have PASM so there is no suspension damper button. I am told I have the launch control but have yet to try it. Is there an option to have sports+ then as the OP doesn't seem to have that? Any ideas?

What makes you say the OP does not have Sport +?

I am not saying that at all. In fact the OP doesn't have the car depicted, it is a photo of someone else's car so we don't know what he has. I guess it could be sports +. My query was really not related to the OP's photo but whether to have a sports+ button, you needed to have also the sports button. In my gen 1 cayman I had the suspension button but no sport button but I have a sport and sport+ button on my gen 2 car. I was merely wondering whether you get both sport and sport+ button when you choose the sports option. If the third button on the OP's pic IS a sport button, is it sport+ or just sport? That was my point - not very well put I might add! Apologies for any inexactitudes.

I had an early 997 manual. It had sport chrono and PASM. It had a PASM button and a Sport+ button.

I now have a 981 PDK with sport chrono and no PASM. It has a Sport and a Sport+ button.

I'd guess that the newer eco friendly cars have a sport button which is just for turning the eco off. I'd compare this to the car having 3 modes - Eco, Normal and Mental. Sport for me is just Normal. I never use Mental.

Well I''m just confused now! My set up is exactly the same as your 981 yet its a 987.2. Is the sport+ connected to having chrono package? Any pork dealers out there with the answer as to why a sport and sport+ button on some cars and only a sport button on others?

These things change over the years, so don't try to compare the 987 and 981.

My 997.2 has the sport buttons and there are certainly part of the Sport Chrono pack. Mine has the Sport Chrono Plus pack, but you get both buttons with the plain Sport Chrono pack.

Many thanks for the replies all.

Based on all the research I've done, it appears there is no set place for each button. I've seen the button for PASM in several places and it all depends on the options the car has.

I've since found out that this particular example has from left to right:

Sport
Sport Plus
PASM

And obscured by the Gearstick:

Spoiler Raise/Lower
PSM

Also, I'll be test driving this on Saturday smile

Ok so where is the launch control button?

Mine has sport, sport+ (sport chrono pack), and the spoiler lifter. No pasm. No launch control button.

Sport holds the gears longer than normal, blips the throttle on downchanges, and generally makes a much nicer drive under normal road conditions.
Sport+ is much more aggresive - imho too aggresive for road use, keeps the revs above 4k(ie within the power band), and cuts out 7th(overdrive) gear.

2010 3.4s, 987 gen2.

There is no 'launch' button.

Put car in Sports+ mode . Put car into gear - put left foot on brake - press acelarator to build up revs - until launch light comes on on steering wheel - simultaneously lift left foot of brake.

Thats how to launch

"Build up revs" is actually floor it so you activate the "kick down" switch at the full extent of the accelerator pedal's travel. I used it several times on my Silverstone visit, but having seen how brutal it is I won't be doing it in mine, even when it is run in...

Must be an extra option above sport chrono. No lights on my steering wheel. Not about to try this at the lights in Witney to see if it works on mine smile)

Should see it on the dashboard display.
